2009 was the 50th anniversary of the founding of Island Records, arguably the most prestigious record label in the history of British music.

Music Submission to Island Records - Chris Blackwell founded the Island label in Kingston, Jamaica in 1959 with capital of just ??1000. Relocating to London in the early 60s Blackwell built the most diverse and enviable back catalogue of any independent record label in history. From Island's early Jamaican roots in ska and rock-steady, through the label's expansion to become the cutting edge of progressive rock in the late 60s, and then on to the signing of such international superstars as Bob Marley and U2, Blackwell brought to Island a unique vision and passion which still informs the label's approach to this day.

Skin & Barrel Music is a decidedly new-school publishing entity. Our prime directive is 'First Do No Harm'. That means that our focus is on creating income for original works that do not encroach on other potential income for the artist (physical sales, digital distribution etc..)

We don't think we deserve a part of any dollar we didn't earn for you. We are not trying to create a giant clearing house type catalog. When we do add a work to our catalog it's because we think we can find a place for it. We do not sign artists to exclusive first right of refusal contracts. We evaluate each piece of music on it's own merits. When we hear someone say "radio-friendly" or "commercially viable" we don't know what they're talking about and in general wish they would just zip it.

We're currently working on a collection of Mixtapes to promote for placements in high-end TV advertising, commercials and branding projects.

In particular we're looking for songs that are fun, uplifting, quirky, and have a 'feel good' factor for the summer. We'll also consider ambient tracks with sound design that ooze power, speed or authority.

Think of major car adverts, lifestyle, fashion, 'girl about town' type commercials.
