STRAGE / Press

“.. it just flows so effortlessly; from the soft and open to aggressive and driving, never slipping into the overtly experimental or utterly and completely boring. It’s a slippery slope and you need to have a lot confidence in your songwriting skills to pull it off.”

“With the lights blacked out and an eerie backing track, Strage began. Their performance, to be blunt, was crushing. Simply crushing. It was the perfect showcase of building up and then releasing tension to create emotion.”

“Strage took to the stage next, and what followed was nothing short of what their name translates into – a massacre! At the moment they are one of my favourite bands in the country. These three guys produce a heavier, fatter, more ear destroying sound than most five pieces could. I personally feel too, that the music on its own, conveys more emotion and feeling than many bands with vocalists can, not an easy task. It is cerebral, incredibly well written, intricate, loud, soft, beautiful art. It transcends genres and pigeon holes. They are monumental and I cannot recommend enough how much you need to see them.”

“Strage were incredible, they transcended the audio barrier and actually put on a show. The lighting was so sick, the stage was literally set for them to destroy, which they did.”

“The Godflesh guitar tone, the Cult Of Luna sonic anxiety and the Pelican build-ups, these are the obvious influences, yet influences are what they remain. Strage are their own beast. It was their first show and without fail the first show jitters were there, but half a song in, and with the kinks ironed out, they looked like the pros their members are.”

“I feel confused. Like, I wanted it to carry on, but was satisfied when it finished. I like how it just keeps building up. I wish I knew what words to use to describe what I want to say about it. It made me feel uneasy and not sure what to expect. That's what makes it different. It's not predictable like most music. That's why it's good.”

“Truth be told, a band like Strage on any other night and at any other event like this would probably have been out of place. Yet on Saturday night at Broadcasts, with artists trying to create dialogue and connect ideas through interpretation and art, a band with no vocals, just music to let the mind wonder and form its own conversation, it was exactly what was needed. It just made sense.”

“The amount of noise and power coming from the 3 piece was overwhelming at times, and as they praised the gods of loud the crowd stared on.”

““Do they get it?”, “Holy shit it’s loud!”, “That riff”, “I can’t believe this is happening at the KZNSA”, “That mural looks amazing” My mind ran wild with thoughts.”

“They managed to take the loud, raw and intimidating elements of their first show and refine and contain them, not losing any of the intensity that made them so appealing in the first place. My highlight of Strage’s set was their last song. From the stop/start riff in the beginning to the final note drenched in feedback and delay, it’s everything you want from the type of music they play.”

“Strage are easily one of the loudest bands this country has to offer.”

“I really really am enjoying the Strage stuff...its made me pull out out music I haven't listened in years.”
