For women, the different vocal styles includes the screams and grunts Cadaveria, vocal style "pop" Tanja Lainio Lullacry and style of operatic soprano Vibeke Stene of Tristania and Tarja Turunen. There are more female singers in gothic metal than any other genre of heavy metal, but the vocals are not necessarily synonymous with the genre.
Black gothic metal
The English group Cradle of Filth has combined heavy guitars and distinctive grunts and black metal, with strong but sometimes referred to as the cliché of Gothic imagery, their debut album since The Principle of Evil Made Flesh (1994). While other groups tried to use gothic motifs in his music, Cradle of Filth made of gothic heavy metal made, not vice versa.
