music and children

Its important to share your love of music with your children. Nothing can be better or more bonding than music on in the house and dancing around the living room with your kids. Shut the TV off and turn on the radio. Or pop in a few of your favorite cd's and share with them your music from your youth. Play different genres..show them there is so much more to music than the current music of today. Turn them on to Zepplin, Young, Grateful Dead, or some Hendrix or even some Vivaldi and Sinatra. How about a blast of Country or some disco. Hand them an instrument. Encourage them to join band or chorus in school. Let them bang on pots and pans and encourage them to make thier own noise! One of my most rewarding moments as a parent was taking my teen daughter to a Zappa Plays Zappa concert. I have always been A Zappa fan and have seen Frank a few times. Taking my daughter to see Dweezle was one of the most bonding moments and a memory we will both treasure. Getting the chance to meet Dweezle and having him meet my daughter and sign her shirt was a moment we will share forever. Wow.. taking my kid to see Frank's Kid.. Life can be so awesome sometimes My daughter is a musician. She came out of the womb humming in tune with the radio. Reconizing this early on I made sure she had access to instruments and had the chance to hear all types of music. We turned up the radio, we danced like idiots around the house. At the time I am sure my children thought Mom was nuts, maybe they still do but we certaintly had fun and laughs. Today at 21, she has a wide range of music appreciation, plays guitar amazingly well and still proudly wears her Zappa T shirt. So, turn it up..louder..and forget the craziness of the day and just rock out with your kids.
