It’s curious that the sweetest fruit grows from troubled soil. When founding member Doug bistrow couldn’t make last summer’s schedule I wasn’t sure that there would be a BEER MONEY tour. We really began to feel some cohesion as a band on the February tour just a few months prior and this unraveling of that core line-up left me feeling pretty uprooted. Yet, from that trouble sprung such devoted fans and stellar musicians eager to make the journey that I decided to press on.
After letting go of the band as I knew it a memory came back from years before; while booking the first tour in 2008 I had a vision of BEER MONEY as an evolving musical entity. It would serve as a vehicle for my many talented friends to visit, play and take respite from their regular gigs. Musically, it would always stay fresh with new members and their playing styles. The pay off for me and the Alaskan audience would be a hybrid musical experience performed by people who have the glow of “vacation” radiating from them. I dove into planning the tour and invested with much deeper roots with BEER MONEY apparel, and our full length debut release, Bootleg Radio.
The risk paid off and in just one year BEER MONEY has become the original vision. Doug Bistrow returns on bass and with him is first-time John Barbush, the drummer from their reggae band Akasha. I’m almost a little scared of how hard this band is going to groove. Our other featured member marks many firsts; a lady, primarily a vocalist, a keyboard player and a brand new BEER MONEY member. In February BEER MONEY will be playing more original music than ever before and we have included two legit jazz gigs where we will play standards and original music.
As always, BEER MONEY finds itself amidst altruistic opportunity. We are very happy to play for a private benefit hosted by a long time friend and fellow musician and our last Saturday we are making the haul back up to Talkeetna to play the Fairview Inn. You’re wondering where the altruism is hiding at the Fairview? The Denali Arts Council has a rich performance schedule throughout the winter and on February 12th they will be performing “The Complexities of Love,” a collection of bits spun by talented Talkeetna residents. We would like to invite our fans to come celebrate our last stop on the BEER MONEY tour by attending this wildly funny production at 7:00pm and then crossing the street to join us for a rollicking farewell at the Fairview.

I feel like a teenager; i'm uber excited and devistatingly disappointed, I'm joyus and angsty.
Tonight, BEER MONEY releases it's debut CD, Bootleg Radio and I will not be there. Musicians from Chicago, NYC and St. Louis all came to Alaska to share great nights of music and cheer with you. T'shirts, CD's, Stickers and banners all made their way from all over the country to decorate our great state in celebration of this uniquely Alaskan rock band. Yet, I will have to celebrate from many many miles away, trapped by weather on the coast of the Beaufort Sea.
BEER MONEY has been come an entity of itself; a thing that I have come to love and curse. I have invested months of heart, soul and energy in coordinating this event and I am feeling very low that I cannot be there to set it sail. But, while i stand sadly by, the boys in the band are HOT! They have been bubbling with excitement to come and meet you and our fine state. Together, they are the finest musicians that I have ever played with and, oddly, that remains even if I'm not there. I spoke with them, they are ready to melt your face with kick ass rock n roll!
Please frineds, do yourself a favor, go see BEER MONEY. And take pictures so I can see how great it was.
heart and soul, Kevin

holy shnikeys! I woke up to a phone message from the printing guy at Discmasters yesturday telling me that he didn't have THE MASTER DISC for the duplication! How does a duplication company get this close to the delivery date and fail to mention that to the client? THe Master Copy was sent on the 26th of July!!
So, I was stressed last night. But, in the morning I spoke with the big cheese at discmasters and he seemed to think that we had enough time to get another copy to the duplicaiton house and still make the deadline.
Thankfully, the Discmasters is a suburb of Chicago, where the disc was mastered at In Vault Lab Studio (used to be a bank vault, how cool is that?). My man Rollin Weary is going to HAND DELIVER the master copy monday morning for a timely release on Monday night.
If you love BEER MONEY, and your excited about getting a copy of our Debut record, then you owe a great deal of thanks to Rollin who is going way out of his way to make this happen smoothly.
SEE YOU AT THE SHOW!

It’s hard to imagine that a band called BEER MONEY would have the spurs to cultivate a career beyond bar tab coverage. That visage becomes more transparent considering that the members live thousands of miles from one another. Yet, what started as a lark back in 2008 has formed into a good, sturdy habit for the far-flung members of BEER MONEY. August 11th the BEER MONEY boys are tapping their 4th Alaskan tour in support of their debut CD release, Bootleg Radio.
With the new recording and a vigorous 2-week tour, BEER MONEY intends to stagger over the line from habit to tradition. This ambitious, full-length effort is a compilation of live recordings, radio interviews and stage banter captured at shows in July ’09 and February ’10. Founding members Doug Bistrow and Kevin Worrell produced the project with the vision of placing the listener in the live show experience. Back in Chicago Doug sat in on the mix and mastering at the I.V. Lab Studio to give the tracks a handsome polish.
High caliber musicianship, a cd in the bin and great booking withstanding, BEER MONEY still likes to kid around. The Yukon Bar will sponsor the 2nd Traditional BEER MONEY Toga Tuesday in Seward, while Humpy’s holds court for a Beard and Mustache Appreciation Thursday (‘staches to be distributed at the show). The new Tap Root Café will co-host an Office Space Theme Party to include a Hawaiian shirt contest and “Jump to Conclusions” trivia. Along with all the fun, BEER MONEY will be seriously digging in on two shows at Humpy’s where they split the bill with Alaskan favorite, The Matt Lewis Band. Matt and Kevin have been working out the details and there is even rumor of a little spontaneous collaboration between the groups.
