The weekend before last (February 10th to 13th), we played in Fukuoka, Kyoto and Osaka.
The Fukuoka on 10th February gig was fun. It was an international culture themed event, featuring dance acts, bands, and DJs (all mixed genres). It was not our usual kind of thing, but we had a great time, and it was great to catch up with some old faces. We played pretty well I think. Our banter between songs was pretty disgusting, and Bancho managed to make the song titles a bit more colourful. After the gig we stayed in a grotty business hotel.
On the morning of February 11th we caught the shinkansen to Kyoto. We were going to play with Firestarter (ex Teengenerate), The Raydios(ex Teengenerate), Rockbottom, and Three Minute Movie. All of the bands were power pop/punk except us. The venue was Muse Hall. All the bands met at the train station, and we travelled as a group of 20 or so. The venue was huge! We played okay, and got a very good response from the crowd, and the other bands. We went to a good afterparty, were we could relax and chat with the other bands. Someone paid us the compliment "your band are really good because you don't try hard to look cool. You just get up there enjoy yourselves and do it". It was a nice atmosphere and everyone was really welcoming to us.
The next day we traveled to Osaka. We played an event called It's Finking Time at a venue called Mele (previously Rock Rider). We played with Shotgun Runners, Jimmy and His Mojomen, Iguwannas, and The Scarlettes. The first band up were Scarlettes. They played all covers of mostly UK stuff (a lot of stuff from the Nuggets 2 box). Their selection was good, but they didn't have much of a kick/impact.
Second up was us. From the first song the audience was really into it. My voice was not on good form (I think I was quite Nervous over the whole weekend). We played a good set, and we got an encore at the end, for which we played Stormy. We got a lot of great feedback from the audience and other bands, and earned some new fans.
Third up was Iguwannas, to be honest I was too busy guzzling down beer to see much of them. In my relief of having finished playing I was straight to the bar.
Next was Shotgun Runners. This event was the launch party for their second album. They are signed to Mr Pan's label (Neatbeats). They were totally immaculate, tight, professional and polished in their playing and performing. Think Who/Yardbirds UK ryhthm and blues and that's exactly it. Amazing if you like that kind of thing.
The last band were Jimmy and his Mojomen. Two words: Painfully cringeworthy.
The next day I chilled out, and went to the aquarium to see the whale sharks. It was amazing. What a great weekend!
