Della Terra / Blog

Our new CD, Patterns, is here!

We worked on this CD for a long time. Danny was on tour with Katy Perry, The Eagles, John Mayer and Maxwell so we had a hard time getting together to record. We finally did at the beginning of last year and this is the result. Check it out!

Getting closer...

Hello everyone,

It's time for an update. We've been getting ready to go into the studio to record an EP. Danny has been on tour working with the Eagles in the US and will be going with them to Australia sometime before the end of the year.

In the mean time, Jason and I have been polishing the tracks we're putting on the EP. We've been working on lyrics and multiple vocal parts as well as adding other instruments to fill in the spaces in our DEMOs. We can't wait to get into the studio!!!! We're hoping to be in before the end of the year and have the finished product sometime early next year. Stay tuned!

Danny is on tour with John Mayer...

...as part of the sound crew. His new job is live sound technician and his current assignment is in support of the John Mayer tour. It is something that has set our time line back as far as recording with Sylvia Massy but it will be great for us in the long run. He's out there making a lot of contacts.

What is interesting is how our writing style has changed now that Danny is not regularly at practice. Jason and I have now been doing most of the writing. We've always contributed about equally in the lyric writing but now we're contributing about equally to the melodies and arranging of the music. Jason and I record our ideas and forward them to Danny. He writes his guitar parts and sends the songs back to us for further work. In this manner we've written some of our strongest music to date! Danny is returning to the Bay Area in a couple of months and we can't wait to get back at it. The longer we go the stronger we get. Thanks for reading!

April 3rd at The Phoenix Theater

What a great show! For those of you who don't know about The Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, CA, it's a community center and skate park during the day and an awesome live music venue by night. We had been waiting to play a show on our home turf since we started out! We finally played a warm up show a couple of weeks ago with Cloakwheel in Novato. The Phoenix Theater show was our chance to headline in our normal stomping grounds. The show started out with Blys, a young group of local guys playing some blues based rock. They were very impressive! Then came Spindle Tree and Via Coma who both turned in high energy, indie rock sets. In between this in the lobby of the theater Nuclear Tempest played. These guys played some ripping metal! Very tight as a unit.

As far as Della Terra goes, our set turned just as planned. Jason rolled out his new bass rig ("delivers like death!"), I had some new graphics for my bass drum head and Danny brought along his precious computer so that we could play the sample part in 8 of Diamonds for the first time ever! The sound in the venue was great and our set turned out just as rehearsed. Beautiful! The set list was:

Tragedy of Love Pervasive Verge Mirrors and Hallways Bravery 8 of Diamonds Taken By The Wolf We Are Lost, Part 1 We Are Lost, Part 6 Tapestry

All in all it was a great show! We had a wonderful time playing as well as watching all of the other bands. Looking forward to the next show!

Friday in Novato...

We had a great time last night! Again, we have to thank Cloakwheel for inviting us to play with them in Novato. Also, thanks to Our Hollow Ascent for driving all the way from Chico for the show! Holy shit!

Our set list:

Pervasive Verge We Are Lost, Part 1 We Are Lost, Part 6 Taken by the Wolf 8 of Diamonds Bravery Tapestry Tragedy of Love

We're really looking forward to the show at the Phoenix on Friday, April 3rd. Come check us out!

Sweet!

Wow! What an awesome show!

First off, we have to thank Mike from Gates of Light who passed our name along because they were unavailable to play the show. He told Marcus, from Cloakwheel, about us and he put us on the bill. It was a seriously good show. Also, best of luck to Mokshya who is touring the west coast for the next few weeks.

The lineup was:

Interstellar Grains Della Terra Cloakwheel Mokshya Curmudgeon

You need to check out these bands!

Our setlist:

Pervasive Verge We Are Lost, Part 1 We Are Lost, Part 6 Taken by the Wolf 8 of Diamonds Bravery (no lyrics yet) Tragedy of Love

And on another note, Cloakwheel had an opening for a show this Friday, March 20th and they offered us the opening spot. If you missed the show last night, come out to see us this Friday!

Nu-prog!!!

Ok, we've had a hard time picking a genre when people ask us what we sound like. So, we were thinking about it yesterday while we were working on lyrics for our new song, Jade, and we came up with nu-prog. We've never heard this mentioned as a specific genre before so perhaps we have invented a new category for music. If so, feel free to use it. We figure that bands who play metal but don't consider themselves to be metal or play more than metal call themselves nu-metal. I think it's the same for us. We play a lot of music with prog elements, probably more than any other style. Yet we play acoustic stuff, somewhat poppy stuff, hard edged, almost metal stuff, etc. The idea is that we are progressive with our approach to writing but not exclusively focused on traditional "prog rock" elements.

Now, this is not for us. We know what we sound like. We sound like Della Terra. However, a lot of people feel more comfortable when they can categorize their music. So there it is. Della Terra plays nu-prog.

Looking for shows!

We are looking to play a bunch of shows this year! We are based in Santa Rosa, CA so we'd like to keep things on the west coast for the moment but if there is a great opportunity somewhere else in the country, we're up for it.

If you are a band that has a similar sound or you think we would be a good match, please contact us, we'd love to open for you! If you are a friend of a band that you think we match with please let them or us know so we can initiate contact and try to make something of it.

We're trying to bring the music to the people, LIVE, and we put on a great show! Drop us a line ASAP.

The gig last night...

Hello everyone,

I know, it's been a long time. We've been working on finding a new rehearsal space as well as working on new material. We're hoping to have some of the new stuff uploaded soon.

As far as the show goes, we'd like to thank Gates of Light for once again putting a show together for us. They had been through some recent hardship, their bass player having lost his mother over the weekend. They found a last minute stand in and the show went on. This time it was at a new venue, Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. It was a nice club and the sound was very good which is what we look for.

Of course the weather here in the SF Bay area has been wonderful for the last two weeks. So what happens on the night of the show? It rains of course. However, it was not a big deal because it was only a light rain. We got all of the gear loaded in, set up and sound checked. The show started right on time. Here is our set list.

1. Pervasive Verge 2. We Are Lost, Part 1 3. We Are Lost, Part 6 4. Ouroboros 5. Taken by the Wolf 6. Bravery 7. Astral Peak

Now, at this point we were going to close with Tragedy of Love but our set was cut short! Damn! Somewhere along the line there was a miscommunication and we though we had 45 minutes, enough to squeeze in the last song. Oh well, next time. Over all the set went really well and the crowd was really into it. We're looking forward to playing again soon. We'll let you know when!

Reintroducing, Della Terra!

Hello everyone,

It's been way too long since we've had any news for you! I figure it's time to reacquaint ourselves with our fans. Life has been getting in the way of music lately! The shifting economy and other work related issues have kept us too busy. However, in a couple of weeks we're going to be back at it with full force. At that time we're going to be doing some recording. We're trying to finish up the next three tracks in pre-production. The next CD is going to be awesome! At least we think so! That music has a different energy than the first CD. All of the prog elements that were on the Sandtimer project are going to be on the Patterns project and more. We have big plans!

So, thank you too everyone for your continued support! We truly appreciate your sharing in our passion.
