Hip Hop

Hip Hop…

For a while, the culture had me worried. The artform turned into something that started to scare me. Back packers and graff artists started to become extinct and the new breed started to try to reshape the culture. It wasn’t about the art anymore… it was taken over by the thoughts from the machine how us artists should be molded. “One hit… all we need is one hit” says the machine. Artists began to lose their own thinking and creativity to follow the machine and pick the road of ‘making just one hit.’ Many have chosen that road to go in hopes it will lead them to the land of the almighty $. Others have stayed the course of what their heart tells them and what their creative minds show them as to be beautiful art. Hip Hop is what you live and what you believe in as a culture. Hip Hop is not what the machine is telling you to do, say or think because they have the pen. The pen is mightier than the sword, but I believe that the one’s own mind is mightier than the pen… to the point that one day, that mind will control the pen themselves in their own way. Hip Hop is a culture, and artform, an expression… a way of life. We control hip hop, not the machine. So everyday, I am hip hop.
