American Songwriter Magazine Award

Hey friends!

I'm thrilled to tell you that my song 'The Deep End' has won Honorable Mention in American Songwriter Magazine's Lyric Contest for October. This is one of the first songs I ever wrote, and you can find it on my first CD, 'Five Challenges to Flight'.

Here's proof that good CAN come from a sad and painful divorce. I hope you'll check out the song and let me know if it strikes a chord with you. As always, thank for your listening, and for your fabulous support.

Cheers, Julia

Lots of Great Press!

Hi friends! In an effort to stay positive in these times of craziness, I wanted to share with you some of the great feedback I've been receiving from my latest CD, 'Lucky Penny'. Thank you all of you for helping me spread the word, about my music and turning your friends on to these latest songs of story that I've crafted with a handful of world-class musicians. Go Obama! -Julia

"Interesting voice, it's almost conversational. But then on the song 'The Unconquered', it goes all PJ Harvey on me." Collected Sounds May, 2008

"Vocal delivery is spicy and tasty." Obsession Collection May, 2008

"The songs on Lucky Penny put you in a unique position to be saved by emotional complexity – and not just have spent pop music by the dollar. Melody and rhythm are catchy and expert. It is hard to combine these two attributes. We have the authentic combination on this new Julia Francis album." Dr. Martin Jack Rosenblum Music History And Literature Professor at UWM

"All the great singers hold up the story and make you feel like it isn't singing at all but rather sharing a secret with you. Julia does that in her sleep." -Mike Hoffmann, Producer

"'Cookin' With Gas' is a funky song with a great chorus. Francis really shines here. Her album is just great." - Lunakafe.com, Sept 2008

"Julia had the style and grace to go into whatever musical house we were building at the moment. Miss Francis delivers! I know, I was there." -Victor DeLorenzor, Producer, Violent Femmes Founding Drummer

"I am documenting the little fires inside, in the hope that they may fuel others." - Julia Francis

Plough and Stars Show This Week

Hi all, I'm looking forward to my 'hump-day' show this week in San Francisco! Ralph Cetola and I have been working on some cover songs, to complement my songs from Lucky Penny, and others. As I do have Ireland in my blood, I love playing in this great pub, where they pour the Guinness like you're supposed to: slow and room temp. Perhaps there will even be room for an Irish tune or two. I look forward to seeing my SF pals this week! Hosted By: Julia Francis When: Wednesday Jul 09, 2008 at 9:00 PM Where: Plough and Stars Pub 940 Clement St. San Francisco, CA 94118 United States Description: Julia Francis
