Help a Superhero out!

We know it's been a while since we've been in touch. We hope you are all well and keeping your rock socks pulled up!

Just wanted to let you know that our Lead (pronounced "Led") guitarist, Stage-left vocalist, and song-Smith, Mark, he of the white Strat and black heart, has a song in the finals of the 3rd Annual Kingston Songwriting Competition. Help show your support by clicking here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151339526002105&set=vb.7726431654&type=2&theater and giving his entry a "like". (Note from our Grandma: You'll have to have "the facebook" to "like"!)

If you don't have "the facebook", we both mock and admire you!

We have a couple shows coming up, notably an appearance at this year's Gananoque RibFest, and a couple bar gigs as well, so keep your eyes and ears open for details. Just the eyes and ears. You'll want to keep all the other things closed.

See you out front soon!

Robot Jesus, Sing It and That Ticking Sound are scheduled to be on the air this Sunday (Sept. 9) at 6 PM on all of the excellent MyFM stations listed on their website: http://www.myfmradio.ca/ We'll probably be tuning in to Gananoque's 99.9 ourselves, just to see how it feels. It's all part of Sessions, with Rob McLeod. Tune in somewhere and rock along! That's all for now, stay tuned and in time! J

www.us!

Hey! It is with great...something like pride, but the pride you feel for being able to click buttons... that we present to you our latest project:: superherosmith.com Over the years, we've brought you SS mySpace, reverbnation, and facebook pages, but now we finally have our very own .com address. Just like a real band. And some non-real ones. And Tila Tequila. And your cousin's dog. But it's ours, and that's what's different. So please, go check it out. Let us know what you love about it. Let us know what you hate about it. Let us know how cute Doug is. We have no idea...

Mark Your Calendars!

Hey, Go grab your calendar, and a big red marker. Now, put a big circle around this date: Monday, Feb 15th Then write “Buy Superhero Smith Album!!!” inside it! (For those of you using electronic calendars, such as on your computer or iPod, DON’T actually write on it! This is important. Doing so will circle a lot of other things that just aren’t as important…) That day, Monday Feb 15th, (hereafter known as St. Smithentine’s Day) is the day that our online store goes on-line. Rest assured that we will be bombarding you that morning with the link and address to our store. At that point, you will be able to point your web browser to our page, and then BUY OUR ALBUM. You’ll be able to choose between downloading an mp3 version, or a physical cd which will be mailed to you. You’ll also be able to choose from a variety of other merchandise, including T-shirts, and whatever else we come up with between now and then. Have a suggestion for an item? Always wanted a Superhero Smith water bottle? Keychain? Hat? Thong? Let us know, and we’ll see what we can do. We will eventually have physical copies ourselves which we can peddle, but for now, the fastest and easiest way to get your copy is online. What can I tell you about the album you’re going to buy? Well, we’ve decided to cleverly title it “Superhero Smith”. It contains 12 songs, covering a mix of tunes with the writing pretty evenly split between Judson, Brian, and Mark. If you’ve seen us play in the last year, you’ll recognize most of them from our live show. It features brilliant package design and artwork by our own Brian Frommer. It even makes a handsome coaster in physical form, so order a set for the living room. (Note: MP3 downloads will not protect your coffee table from condensation rings. Superhero Smith accepts no responsibility for any damages caused by anything you do, at all. Ever.) So, that’s it. Here are the bullet points: -Monday Feb. 15 -Click -Spend -Enjoy! Thanks, See you on the 15th! The Superhero Smiths

Album update:

Well, it’s almost done. We started this project back in the summer of 1822, and it’s nearly finished. Nearly. Recording is finished, the songs are mixed. 12 songs made the cut, and are being mastered this week. Artwork is being conceptualized for the cover. Title is TBA if we come up with one at all. Then it’s off for production. The plan at the moment is to set up an online store, where you will be able to order a physical cd or download the album in mp3 format, if yer one of them young kids what use the interweb a lot. We should be able to keep it affordable: hopefully in the low $thousands. We may even get it together to offer other merchandise as well, such as t-shirts, etc., but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Once our store is operational, we will let you know. Likely repeatedly and obnoxiously. We will also be carrying around a number of cds ourselves, and selling them to those of you who make the mistake of coming too near. We’re also hoping to have a CD release party, because that seems like as good an excuse as any. We don’t have a date or venue for that yet, so we’ll make those details know once we invent them. Thanks for your patience: We hope it will be rewarded very soon. The Superhero Smiths

Can you come out to play?

Hey All, Just wanted to let you know about some stuff coming up: On Saturday, the 27th of September, we're going to be playing a special show at the Firehall Theatre in Gan. Our friend Heather Shortall is moving to Orlando to work for the big mouse. Due to some circumstances that are beyond her control, she has a sudden and unexpected menetary obligation that needs to be fuffilled before she can go. That's a fancy way of saying she needs some money, and it's not her fault. So, friends have put together a special fundraising evening for her. The event kicks off with Alex Leggett playing some tunes from his new CD. There'll be a silent auction running through the night, with some great items, including a donation from Gan's own NHL'er Alyn McCauley, Disney Passes, Playhouse passes, and many others. We're going to give away some Superhero cds too. I've heard rumours there'll even be a kissing booth! Don't get too excited, we won't be in the kissing booth. We'll be in line... And there's a cash bar, so you can get loosened up for the kissing booth. Then, we're going to rock the place with our usual brand of mayhem, and keep you dancing through the night. We're also planning to record the show, and video tape it as well. And I'm talking the real deal, not my mom's VHS camcorder. (I'm trying to get a camera crane for a nice crane shot, but Brian says I have to choose between that and the helicopter.) Then maybe we'll release a live album or DVD. You know you want to be the loudest voice in the crowd, yelling "Whooo!" at inappropriate times so you can hear yourself on the live album, so come on down and bring your friends. Tickets are only $10 for adults and $5 for kids. They're available at the door or in advance (with cash) at the Playhouse box office. The very next day, Sunday the 28th, we'll be playing another fundraiser. This time, we're on the street, Market Street to be exact, rocking to raise funds for the On the Water's Edge art show that takes place in October at the Firehall. The event starts at 4pm and runs to 9, and there's a fish fry provided by Mike Mundell's seafood. I live just down the road from Mike's Kingston East store, and I can assure you, his fish and chips are awesome. And if he brings his homemade potato chips... forgetaboutit! I'll be too busy eating to sing. As you'd expect from a fundraiser, there'll be other stuff going on as well, draws and auctions, etc. Haven't heard anything about a kissing booth, maybe I can set that up... tickets are $15 each or 2 for $25, and available at Cracker Crumbs, Synergy Massage Therapy, or the Thousand Island Playhouse box office. See you out front, -Superhero Smith http://www.reverbnation.com/superherosmith

Long time, no write...

Hey, Sorry it’s been so long since we wrote… life, you know? We made it through Festival week just fine, from playing Friday night under the constant threat of rain, then rocking at Diggy’s to get out of the rain, to playing 6am Monday morning on A-channel in the rain… I sense a recurring trend… After that half of us took off for some much needed camping. With considerably less rain, thankfully. We’ve since made Diggy’s Pub unofficial Superhero HQ, playing there both last Thusday and this past Monday. Now we’re planning to rock it again on Labour Day, Monday Sept. 1st. After that there’s Music on the Mountain in Prince Edward County, on Sept 7th. Bring a lawnchair or blanket to Lake on the Mountain Resort, right next to the Glenora Ferry, and see us play along with an assortment of others in the Afternoon-long free music festival. We’ll be going on around 5. We’re playing between sets by Astrid Young (Neil’s sister), and Emily Fennell. So that should be a great time. Then, we’re going to be playing at Cracker Crumbs on Sunday, Sept 28th. It’s a rock concert; it’s a fish fry; it’s a fundraiser… It runs from 4-9pm, with us onstage for much of that, when we’re not enjoying the fish. And don’t worry, Superhero Smith is not doing the cooking. That’s the foreseeable future. We hope to take some time this fall to work up some new material, with the recording of Superhero Smith full-length CD number 1 always in sight. Hope all is well in your world, And we’ll see you out front, Superhero Smith

Canada Day Weekend

Summer sure fills up quickly around here. It's going to be a busy weekend for our heroes: We're still planning to rock the bandstand in Gananoque Town Park Saturday from 5-8, as part of the River Rat Rally. Come on out and have a listen, it's free, after all. We've also added a show, playing said-same bandstand again on Canada Day, Tuesday, July 1st. This time we'll be playing from 6:30 or 7 until the fireworks start at 9pm. Considering the four of us have to swap out a show at a "popular local entertainment establishment" Saturday night /Sunday/ Monday, we'll be tired little superheroes on Wednesday morning. But it's all in the name of Rock & Roll. Thanks to all of you who came out on Saturday to Cracker Crumbs. Special thanks to Hannah and Dana for taking the heat off of us for a while, and to all the random people who gave us money. We were happy Sunburned Superheroes. One last thing... We may or not be appearing in this week's issue of the Gananoque Reporter, So pick one up. Even if we're not in there, it's like a buck, and you can get caught up on all the happenings in Gan... See you on the lawn, -Superhero Smith http://www.reverbnation.com/superherosmith

Festival of the Islands

Hey All, Just a quick note to say that we're playing at this year's Festival of the Islands. We kick off the waterfront concert series on Friday, August the 8th at 8pm, opening for an act to be announced soon. I'll post the details when I have some. We hope to see you there. Actually, we hope there's so many people there, we can't see you. Unless you're up front dancing and screaming, in which case we'll probably see you.

Thank You!

Hey! Thanks to all of you who have become "fans" in the last two weeks. We have gone from not having a profile to having the second highest number of fans of all the "local artists" with ReverbNation profiles, and it's all thanks to you. We hope to have a couple new show announcements very soon, but, as always, I don't like to announce stuff until I have it in writing. I'd rather just tease you and lead you on... Mark
