Ahh... - October 11, 2008

It's been a while since I've blogged. But, I'm excited. It's a good time for blogging.

Today I made sure I got everything ready with my voter's registration. I hope you all did the same. Those of you that did - I think we're on the right track. We need this election to show that we're not a complacent people that's willing to just let the country run itself. I don't get on too many political rants. Matter of fact, hardly any. But I believe that we need a change. I'm so excited that there were more people that watched the first presidential debate than the finale of American Idol, and that there's a presidential candidate that excites the people of our generation. Enough of that...

I'm also excited because I'm back at it, hitting my tunes hard. I've worked up two new ones in the last two days. I've been trying a new recording techniqe for drums which has proven to give the best sound I've gotten yet for my very little home studio. Plus, I'm working with everything on a Mac now, so you can imagine my relief having that available. Before these two new ones I already had enough for the new ep, but I think these will end up taking the place of the other two, and will give the whole thing a more lively feel. At least that's what I'm hoping for. I've got a little over a week left here at home, so I'm hoping to get all of the tracking done while we're off so I can be mixing it on the road and then trying to find somebody to master it as well. There are other things in the works with this little project, so it's a very exciting time. Those other things do include more live shows... so be on the lookout for that as well.

In addition to this ep, I've started working on an all instrumental ep as well. It's just in it's infant stages... but it will be my next focus once this one's in the bag. I've been commissioned by a friend of mine to write a trumpet piece as well, and I'm hoping that will be a part of this instrumental work. We'll see. I'm not comfortable with the thought of not having words and lead vocals to fall back on. That's in part why I'm doing it... in hopes to stretch my legs with my arranging and composition skills. Which of course have a lot of room for stretching.

This is all on top of the fact that we're getting ready to go into the studio for the new Ha Ha Tonka record. I can't explain how excited I am about it. I know that every band talks about how excited they are when they have a new record in the works, so I won't beat a dead horse, but I really feel like it has the potential to be the next step for us. We've done some pre-production with our producer (Jason McEntire) a couple of times recently, and have been beating the songs to death trying to get everything just right for when we go in.

So life is good.

Me wife is also doing some great things with her art, and I think it deserves to be checked out. http://www.freewebs.com/jaminabone We've been driving each other to really put ourselves out there, and I'm really proud of how we're doing.

That's pretty much it for now. Be on the look out for new tunes. I'll try to post something within the next week or two just to give you an idea of where this whole thing is going. I hope each of you is doing well. Thanks SO much for checking in on me. Honestly, I always say it, but it's awesome that people are interested. Please spread the word, and download the Zebra Twilight ep off of the player if you haven't already. Once I get new stuff going, I'll probably have to take a couple of them down. So, yeah! That's that!

New Music and Current Projects - April 1st, 2008

Greetings everyone!

First and foremost, thanks so much for checking in. Things here in "bone-ville" are superb. I’ve been writing what I feel are my best tunes yet, and am SO excited about how much better I believe the next ep is going to be. This guy is a big reason I’m excited - http://www.myspace.com/fridaynites1 - His name is Matt Katz, and he plays with a great band called the Bloodsugars - http://www.myspace.com/bloodsugars - out of Brooklyn. Matt and I randomly met online when I had checked out his tunes and really enjoyed what he was doing. He responded and said the same for me, so I asked him if he would ever be interested in collaborating. He said yes, and here we are. His approach is different than what I’m used to, which is causing me to go places with songs that I wouldn’t normally go. Honestly, it makes me pretty uncomfortable sometimes - but I’m loving it. I can’t wait to put my great friends Thom and Tof on top of what’s happening now. Not to mention, it looks like my Dad is going to play some on this little record, as is my brother Chance. It’s always terribly exciting to have family involved. I’ve also inquired to a couple of people from this band - http://www.myspace.com/companyofthieves - which I’m pretty much a little obsessed with right now. Saw them at SXSW, and was really impressed. Since they haven’t formally agreed to anything, they might be upset if I wrote who was doing anything, so for now I’ll just say they’re a great band and you should check them out without mentioning any names. I’m just feeling really lucky to have found so many musicians to help me out with this little project, and I can’t wait to hopefully return the favors someday.

Then in the midst of that, there has been a glimmer of light with some possibility of doing some of this VCSC stuff in a live setting. I will drop this mans name, as we made a pact to do at least one show this summer. His name is Kyle Akers and he plays with this super sweet band called Distance to Empty. - http://www.myspace.com/distancetoempty - Anyway, we’re going to try to put a little no pressure group together to perform some tunes of mine, and his, and whoevers. It’s going to be interesting to try to make some of these tunes that I’ve already put out there fit into a live setting. I’m hoping they become something very different, honestly.

And with all of that said - HHT leaves for about a three week long tour on Thursday. We’re all really excited about getting back out on the road and making some more head way. We’ve got big news that we can’t really release yet... but soon. So be on the lookout for some of that action.

Being on the road will obviously put somewhat of a stall on some of this project, but the good thing is a few of these tunes are to the point where there’s plenty I can still do to them while out as far as mixing and editing is concerned. It’s a really cool process just sending tracks to your friends, and having them do the same back and just slapping it all together and hoping for the best. Plus it just keeps me motivated for when I am home to get my ass in gear and record some shiz!

So that’s pretty much me in a nut shell right now. Winter is changing to Spring, and that’s some of the most inspirational time for me. I’m feeling good to be alive and blessed to be acquainted with so many talented people in my life.

Love you guys. Lennon
