Biography:

The Badly Sketched Poets were formed in 2008 when guitarist, Dan Alexander wrote his first song Counteract. Mario Parescu, the band’s bass player and Dan’s schoolmate suggested they form a band and The Badly Sketched Poets were born. From there they added Chris Vernon, another guitarist and school friend but struggled with finding a suitable drummer. That search was over when Alex Archer joined the band.
Although the concept of forming a band came before studying music for most of The Badly Sketched Poets members, their love of music didn’t:
Dan Alexander:
- Studied vocals with Adrian Jones, singer / songwriter, guitar and bass teacher, voice coach and performer from Kitchener, Ontario. http://www.adrianjones.org/
- Guitar lessons were given by Brendan White, a locally renowned musician.

Mario Perescu:
- Bass guitar lessons were provided through Sherwood School of Music in Kitchener, Ontario. http://www.sherwoodmusic.com/

Chris Vernon:
- Studied under both Christopher Roposo and John McKinley, both accomplished musicians.

Alex Archer:
- Received percussion lessons from Adam Bowman http://www.adambowman.com/live/
- Band workshops were with both Adam Bowman and Joni Nehrita http://www.joninehrita.com/fr_home.cfm

The band went through other names including The Casual Fridays and The Brixtons before settling on The Badly Sketched Poets.
Many artists influenced The Badly Sketched Poets musically including The Beatles, The Strokes and The Libertines just to name a few. Their indie rock sound is all original music with unique sounding vocals performed by Dan Alexander and Chris Vernon.
With approximately 30 original songs currently written and performed in various venues by The Badly Sketched Poets, they’ll be re-recording their first demo CD with 3-time Juno Award winning producer and 2012 nominee Michael Wojewoda.

“Filled with the riffs and beats similar to Jullian Casablancas this young and talented group of fellows are prolific songwriters. They have recorded only a few of the 50 songs they have in their repertoire.”
