Soul Kata is a powerhouse soul / pop band that delivers their original music in the spirit of Stevie Wonder, James Brown and Alicia Keys. Stemming from Mo-Town and bridging from the Stax era, Soul Kata blends their catchy and feel-good music with a nice dose of humor and a light-hearted look at relationships and life. Sure there’s plenty of love songs and songs about relationships in the world, but the band writes music that is as compelling and heartfelt as it is groovy and addicting to dance to.
Front woman and composer, Katrina (Wible) Kope leads the group with her amazing sense of rhythm and blues – simply put, this woman has so much soul you’ll swear she’s a 300 pound diva! Katrina met pianist/composer Josh Rawlings and bassist/arranger Nate Omdal while they all attended Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. They transformed a working jazz quartet into an exciting original group, and for the past five years the members of Soul Kata have been playing the Northwest’s top venues ranging from Jazz Alley to Bumbershoot. Each player has their own successful career but when the powerful band meets Katrina Wible’s soulful voice the result is irresistible!
Recently, Soul Kata has added more punch by establishing a serious horn section for a number of their new and classic songs. The addition of the horns has been well received and often results in entire audiences having to get up and dance.
Soul Kata has a contagious and exuberant sound that is uniquely their own. Through the years they’ve grown in new and interesting ways, but one thing has always remained the same – they play so we may all exercise our inner spirits…in other words…act a fool on the dance floor!
