Biography:

Rowdy Colorado Rock ‘n’ Roll

After 5 years of regional touring, The Longest Day of the Year’s rowdy and danceable live shows have earned them an underground following across the Rocky Mountains. TLDOTY’s brand of rock ‘n’ roll is the offspring of roots country and blues, raised in the front range of Colorado. A performance from TLDOTY is a high energy alchemy of striking songwriting and blistering musicianship.

TLDOTY has taken some of Colorado’s finest stages—at Belly Up Aspen, Boulder Theater, Bluebird Theater, Fox Theater, Hodi's Halfnote, Hi Dive, Larimer Lounge—alongside Blind Boys of Alabama, The White Buffalo, Sturgill Simpson, Frontier Ruckus, Lukas Nelson, and Jason Boland, among many others.

TLDOTY's debut album, Turn Into The Ground, ranked as the #13 most played CO band on state-wide radio in 2012. (www.thecoloradosound.com) They released a second LP of originals entitled "Carapace" in November 2014.

Press:

“The Longest Day of the Year is a group out of Boulder, Colorado... “Turn Into The Ground,” t.Mule pulls the listener in with his grizzly, gravely crooning. Meshing country, blues, and American rock, t.Mule belts in a manner I can only compare to Tom Waits. It’s brutal and snarly, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t sound great with these songs and backed by this group... Breaking barriers of traditional country, strong hints of bluegrass, blues, folk, and some straight up rock are abundant throughout the tunes... The Longest Day of the Year has put together a great debut... Not being a huge fan of the country genre, I could not resist tapping along to the tunes throughout. The bluesy feels, the rock riffs, the folky flourishes all culminated into a great number of songs, a collection that will stick around in my library gathering plays for a long time... TLDOTY is one group whose debut album definitely warrants a pick up, and demands to be played through numerous times.”
Frank Smith - Mostly Midwest

“Very strong alt.country debut CD from a Boulder band of whom Greensky Bluegrass blurbs, “It’s not every day that you hear a band that is able to preserve the best of Americana while bringing a whole new sound to the game.” Guitarist and vocalist “t. mule” wields one of the gruffest voices in recent memory, contrasted with a smart and witty lyrical touch that works to lift TLDOTY above the alt.country fray. Glimpses of blues, grass and jam throughout make this an impressive and recommended debut. Produced by: Jason McDaniel & TLDOTY Label: Mulewax File Under: Americana / Local”
KRFC FM, Fort Collins

“This folk rock band makes listeners feel like they are being sent back to good ‘ol western times. The Longest Day of the Year, originally from Michigan but now based in Boulder, has low, country vocals and high wailing guitars. This band will not disappoint folk rock lovers or those looking for a good foot stomping time.”
Marquee Magazine - The Marquee

“From deep within the tangled foothills of Boulder, Colorado, these grizzled Americana outlaws sing their stories like an old country song, but keep things unconventional with heavy influences in folk, rock, and traditional roots styles. Complete with harmonica, strings, drums and vocals, The Longest Day of the Year will start out Frozen Dead Guy Days with a raised glass and something for those frozen bones to stomp to.”
Bobbi Stark - Marquee Magazine

“TLDOTY appears to be onto something very cool with this EP, and it is very creative and fun and original at the same time that it recalls very traditional roots music... Whatever it is, the blend put out by TLDOTY is in your veins working its magic with the first track of this five-track CD that covers, lyrically, “strong and strange storytelling”: sitting in the dark with the radio on, wishing you had your own car, when you have no one and nowhere to go; the time you were being hauled to jail and wondered whether you would be able to make bail; drinking bourbon after you burned the farm down.”
Jeanie Straub - Colorado Music Buzz

“Their music is an interesting blend of old-time, backbreaking, dusty “whiskey country” and thoughtful, soulful slow rock... Expect to see their progressive, backwoods country flavor coming to the rise next year.”
Jeremy Cougar Littlefield - GetBoulder.com

“The Longest Day of the Year sent me some tracks from their new album, Coffee Stains. I was blown away to say the least. His lyricism reminds me of Tom Waits. His voice reminds me of Lucero; yet, he doesn’t come off as an imitation of another. The Longest Day of the Year merely stand on the shoulders’ of greats to reach new heights.”
Kevin Riley - BackFortyPresents.com

“The legendary Taps McFirkin has lived a long life of beer-fueled danger and adventure and his exploits are wonderfully captured in this heel-pounding, pint-raising tune, "The Debauching Ballad of Taps McFirkin." The song is part of The Longest Day of the Year's five-track EP, "Coffee Stains," which is out now.”
