------Biography-----

Bernie Simpson aka Butterfly Molly, The Method, is a professional musician, performer, recording artist/engineer, dj, born Bernard L. Simpson, Jr., July 5th, 1983 in Charleston, SC.

Known for; Drowned Youth (drummer), Butterfly Molly (drums, guitars, bass, vocals, scratches), Djing and his original production work.

Years active: 1996- present

Bernie was introduced to music around age 3 or 4, beginning to play the drums, watching his uncle in absolute awe. "What made me really decide to become a full time musician, was when I saw Michael Jackson in 1987 at the xl center formerly known as the civic center in Hartford,ct," says Bernie. That was his first concert ever attending and being 4 years old at that time was amazing. "I'll never forget that moment", he says. also mentioning that when a certain personality sees something and totally absorbed by the energy, it can change your life, and it did. Not to mention that some of his family members are musicians.

Bernie, his mum, and brother moved from Hartford to charleston in 1990 after a split from Bernie and james's dad. Attending orange grove elementary is where Bernie began to read and understand music theory, and began to develope a musical identity. Getting into bands like Alice in chains, La guns, Guns in roses, Stp, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Greenday, etc. That whole 90s movement was very inspiring much like the late sixties to mid 70s."I remember Hendrix, Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Mayfield and many more on Saturday mornings".

He was in concert band, marching band, jazz band and extra curricular music activities at school until high school. at 13, him and a friend from Georgia started their first rock band called hypertension, playing their first show at the strand in Marietta, GA. "That was the most exhilarating feeling I've ever felt playing my first show in a nice theater in front of people!" He wanted more. He says, "That became my addiction."

Before then in South Carolina he'd sit in sometimes and jam with his stepfather, and began to take an interest in engineering. "I started to become really curious about how recordings were made, the process, the sounds ya know?" From being involved in music as well as it being around he feels he just got thrown into audio engineering which will be brought up in a moment.

At age 15, him and his brother went to live in North Carolina with their father for a brief moment and shortly ended up moving back with their mom, meeting in Connecticut at the end of 1999. "I did not want to end up back in Ct. I'm a southern boy and what I remembered about Ct as a young lad wasn't to fond but had no choice because my mum was sick of Atlanta." So Bernie and his brother moved with one of their aunts until mum met them. Bernie ended up attending Bloomfield H.S., his brother Carmen Arace middle. Bloomfield is where Bernie met a friend who'd played the bass, through that friend met a girlfriend who then introduced him to Chas (guitar, vox, Drowned Youth).

When these two got together it was all over. They dominated stages in the Northeast and Southeast supporting national acts, headlining their own shows for a period time, recording their first record in 2000, and a few indie EP’s. Not to mention they were topping indie charts, and gained recognition as the #1 independent rock band in 2006 through underground records.

Bernie met a guy named Brian randomly at what most people call a rave in Hartford in 2001, which spawned their first company Funkenpunk Productions. A local concert/party promoter who had successful events within the area for a few years. They also had a radio show, “The Madness” on 107.7 WFCS and continue to work together to this day.

It wasn't until 2003 when Butterfly Molly was derived from an idea Bernie had to produce his own tunes and original sound. At this time is where he started producing hip hop records for local artists. The recording mayhem began...

Unseen Music Group, LLC came to be in 2005. 2009 was the debut of his self titled album "Butterfly Molly" which hit all major retailers including Hot Topic. Sales weren’t good due to the usual marketing and financial situation most struggling artists’ deal with, but the record itself gained international attention. Butterfly Molly held the #5 spot on the reverbnation charts for 4 years straight after the debut release. With a significant drop to #107 recently giving others a chance to be heard. (laughs) Well, until he starts campaigning again. You can still find discs on Amazon as well as some random imports.

There was a tour planned for this record in 2010, but fell through having to rely on new band members, a shady booking agent, among a couple other mishaps, which left Bernie quite discouraged. “Things happen for a reason I guess”, he said. So from there he continued writing, taking things day by day, and working on new demos.

Also around this time is when Drowned Youth wanted to record their own mus

Mike Smith of Suffocation - Smith Blast

“Unfortunately w/ metal you often get a bunchof people on stage that can't play worth a shit and they seem to have an off key screaming contest. That isn't the case w/ Butterfly Molly - these folks know how to handle there instruments and handle them well. Its metal but its metal played proficiently. The vocals are great. Used for full effect, soft when need be,a whisper if its called for and a necessary scream right on cue. This is a tight band with a lot of talent. If you hit the Webster or Toads shoot me an email I'd love to catch ya live. ”
