Biography:

Moruza is a collection of normal everyday people who, in between living their normal everyday lives of houses and gardens and families and jobs get together to play music.

The band name is pulled from frontwoman and songwriter Leslie Moruza Dripps. Coincidently and perhaps a little conveniently, the term 'moruza' is Puerto Rican slang for mish-mash, uncategorized, hither-thither--usually referring to somebody's hair. As a family name it is rare in the US as well as the world: there are only a handful of Moruzas out there.

Treat yourself to discovering that Moruza is a tad, er, moruza: indie-jazz-influenced-singer-songwriter-lieder-based-piano-pop. In short, music your ears can love.

Press:

“Moruza changes moods throughout, moving from the wistful Psychic Say to the optimistic anthem Over The Wall, which will leave you smiling. Either way Moruza takes the light touch. It invites you to listen again and again.”
Paul Hammond - All Things Richmond

“Throughout Moruza the instruments take various parts in the discussion, sometimes agreeing, sometimes not. When they work out their differences the result is joyful crescendo. Joy plays a big part in this album, but so does humor along with a bit of melancholy.”
Paul Hammond - All Things Richmond

“Much of the album's tone is somber, but it's not all serious, as "Penny" is a bouncy pop gem here. Clearly better than most jazz pop out there...”
Aaron Kupferberg reviews Moruza (2009) - Powerpopaholic.com

“Moruza... plays quirky, upbeat piano songs that have equal parts pop glee and serious contemplation.”
Stephen Carradini reviews Moruza (2009) - Independent Clauses

“As finely detailed and eclectic as patches on a quilt, Leslie Moruza Dripps has woven eleven songs with soaring vocals, playful lyrics, and often heartrending themes.”
Jaclyn Piermarini reviews "All Eleven" - 106.1 the Corner, Charlottesville, VA
