Bio
Moruza is a collection of normal everyday people who, in between living their normal everyday lives of houses and gardens and families and jobs get together to play music.
The band name is pulled from frontwoman and songwriter Leslie Moruza Dripps. Coincidently and perhaps a little conveniently, the term 'moruza' is Puerto Rican slang for mish-mash, uncategorized, hither-thither--usually referring to somebody's hair. As a family name it is rare in the US as well as the world: there are only a handful of Moruzas out there.
Treat yourself to discovering that Moruza is a tad, er, moruza: indie-jazz-influenced-singer-songwriter-lieder-based-piano-pop. In short, music your ears can love.
You can be moruza, too. Join us at www.moruza.com.
About
MORUZA is a jazzy piano-pop collection of musicians hailing from capital city, Richmond, VA. Currently, they are playing shows in Richmond and Virginia in support of their newly released self-titled album, Moruza. You can purchase their CD or mp3's online at diggstation.com and cdbaby.com OR come out to a show and get yours in person.
With an undefinable and unique sound it's a bit difficult to put Moruza into one set category or style. Take a look at their CD cover and you begin to see they like to keep it simple and showcase what their instruments can do. You can see the band features piano accompanied by strings, vocals, and percussion- gifting the audience with a whimsical experience in musical optimism. Take a listen and you decide what their style is- for now let's say it's a bit Moruza.
They have played at local and regional venues including Bogart's, The Camel, The National, Gravity Lounge, Ashland Coffee and Tea, the Good Cherry, and festivals including The Watermelon Festival and Arts in the Alley.
Leslie, their esteemed songwriter and leader still sports her first solo ablum, "All Eleven". You can purchase Leslie's solo album "All Eleven" at cdbaby.com and iTunes today!
What Folks Say about Leslie Moruza Dripps:
"As finely detailed and eclectic as patches on a quilt, Leslie Moruza Dripps has woven eleven songs with soaring vocals, playful lyrics, and often heartrending themes." ---Jaclyn Piermarini, 106.1 the Corner, Charlottesville, VA
Based in Richmond, VA, Leslie keeps it clean, but not simple on her new album, "All Eleven." Only voice and piano, this album plays like your favorite sweater on a chilly day. You know the day when you get up to go to work, but everything is shut down because of weather and you get to hide away from the world for a while? Throw on that favorite sweater, then relax into "All Eleven." Alternately sweet and a little ironic,"All Eleven" celebrates life's little pleasures with thoughtful, well-crafted lyrics and interesting melodies. - CD Baby
Leslie Moruza's songwriting in "All Eleven" is an impressive collage of pop, classical and jazz instinct. All the while, Moruza stays above the Top 40's lure of giddy pop, eludes the snares of hyper-mechanical technique and infuses blue notes in ways that even jazzaphobes can swoon over. A must buy on every level. -Corey Harvard
