Christine Bauer / Press

“Good morning from Thunder Bay I have been listening to you for a couple of days now, and have to say, that you are one of the wonderful discoveries I have made on the Searchlight contest. I find that what I had intended on doing, {which was voting for artists I’d already knew} well...what can I say...you really spoke to me with your music, and I gave you my vote today. Thank you for doing what you do. Your lyrics are woven into the music, and with your voice, you tell a story which feels so much like northwest Ontario. cheers Margaret Evans.(Artistic Photographer)”

“CarbondaleRocks News While in Winnipeg, local singer / songwriter Christine Bauer spent some time in Bedside Studios, the creation station of Juno Award nominee Len Milne. There, Bauer recorded an acoustic track, "Run Johnny Run," on which Milne offered to play bass, then suggested drums. They laid down two more tracks, "Honey I Don't Mind" and "Wish I Could Feel Your Love," adding drums and electric instruments to both. “I have never played my folk music with drums, electric [guitar], and bass, but it seemed to naturally lend itself to those instruments,” Bauer tells Nightlife. Indeed, the new direction gives the songs substantial kick, and Bauer says she intends to continue exploring it. Readers can hear rough cuts of "Run Johnny Run” and “Honey I Don't Mind” on the Nightlife web project at <http://www.CarbondaleRocks.com>, as well as “Turn Down,” from Bauer’s previous release, Precious Things...”

"What are your thoughts regarding my new direction in music?" "I'm partial to louder rock, so I like it a lot. Might be that some folks will think it less intimate, but to me the electricity gives your music more strength- especially the reverb on your voice on "Honey," which gives it a really cracked, in-your-face sound. At the same time, your singing is more relaxed because your voice doesn't need to carry the entire song. Looking forward to the final cut!"

“Christine's songs are hard as nails and tough as leather.”

““Original ballads by a true 21st century troubadour! Christine sings with the kind of strength and conviction that flows from lived experience. An accomplished musician/performer and story teller. We were captivated by her recent performance at Studio Central”. (Ernie Bart. Studio Central Cafe, Winnipeg)”

"Christine sounds like a female Bob Dylan"

“ I don’t like comparing musicians to others, especially for someone incomparable like Christine. Instead, I like to think of the stories. When Joni Mitchell sings “A Case of You”, or “The Last Time I saw Richard”, or perhaps when the Indigo Girls sing about stopping at a bar at 3 AM in “Closer to Fine”, I imagine that the unrecognized musician on the stage to be someone like Christine Bauer. ”

“With a voice as powerful as the winds that blow across the plains of her native Canada and an arsenal of varied and infectious guitar styles, Bauer with her self penned blend of folk rock, jazz and blues, has been charming audiences across Southern Illinois.”
