Bio: We opened up this room to bring local talent to the community. We had a rainy night and had recording artist Paula Tozer booked to play and decided to have her play in our upcoming new addition, so this is how The Hollywood STAR ROOM evolved. We have had many bands play here, including 8 time Juno award winners The Good Brothers. If you are a musician and interested in a place to play or have any ideas feel free to contact me and thanks. We are different than a bar as we do not serve alcohol, although you can bring your own. We are all about sharing the love. Many folks over the last 5 years have asked us why we own and run this music venue. Last night was no different in that again questions came up in regards to why we do what we do. The question is very easy to answer, but actually a lengthy one, but will try to answer it in short form. First a little bit about me. Every one of us has dreams and goals of what we want in life. Many still dream of what they want, and many folks are still working on their goals. As for myself, I have had many jobs, starting as a social worker when I was in my 20's. I left that job to go to Culinary School in Fort Lauderdale and graduated as a chef. I was hired immediately at Denny's as a cook, and quickly went up the ladder to the manager, and then regional manager in southern Florida. After a few years working for Denny's in different states, I decided to leave Denny's to a 5 Star Restaurant in Hollywood, California, worked there as a chef for a few years, and got hired in Las Vegas as the main chef at the Hilton. I was responsible for the main kitchen and had 118 under me. Working 50-60 hours a week for just over 2 years, until I got word that both of my parents were very sick in the hospital, in intensive care with pneumonia. Being the only child, I decided to quit immediately and flew back to Canada to look after them. That now was over 25 years ago. I have always been a caring and loving person, and have always wanted to help people in need. Being in the hospitality business for many years, I know how people want to be treated, and what they like. When living in London, Ontario, James Ward and I had a restaurant for 1 year. Business was good, but we only signed for a 1- year lease, and the owner decided he wanted a much higher rent, so we did not renew the lease. We moved here just over 11 years ago, bought this house with no idea that we would be owners of a music venue. My aunt passed away almost 8 years ago and left me a good amount of money. We bought a small canteen and called it Aunt Leah's where we serve homemade food.then decided to have live entertainment for a few weekends, but one night it was raining very hard, so we decided to put them in the unfinished living room that we had added to our home. Paula Tozer suggested that we should make this a lounge. After thinking about it for a few days, we decided to open. That was over 5 years ago, and we are not slowing down. Now to answer the question. We believe in sharing the love in all that we do. Giving musicians a place to be heard, respecting others, and being honest with folks no matter what. Hospitality is #1 here at The Hollywood STAR ROOM. No drama, B.S. or negativity here. Seeing folks here enjoying themselves, without drama, and wanting folks to feel like they are at home, in a good vibe surrounding, is the most important here. Going out for an evening in a 5 Star venue without paying for it as you would elsewhere. Saving folks money, and making it affordable for all. LOVE, RESPECT, HONESTLY, AND HUGS and making new friends is what you will receive here at The Hollywood STAR ROOM. What makes James Ward and me happy, is seeing you happy. We do not do this for the money, because we do not make any money. We are very passionate and believe that everyone deserves a night out, and that is why we open up our home for everyone.
