Bio: This popular Christian teen center, located on West Broad Street, opened in 1996 and was run by a group of people who have since moved on to focus on other interests, but the Solid Rock continues today thanks to some local people who didn't want to see it fade. Isaac Diggs, one of the new co-owners of Solid Rock Cafe and full-time minister with Evergreen Ministries in Charlottesville and Waynesboro, said the former owners saw a decrease in volunteers and donations over the years. "They kind of got burned out," Diggs said. So, after financial difficulties, the cafe closed for the month of December 2009, but was reopened by Diggs, his wife and two other community members in January 2010. It costs teens $1 to enter and a few extra dollars for food. There are pool tables, video games, music, space to dance and karaoke equipment. At one time the cafe had a huge projection TV, but was damaged in a flood. The Solid Rock hosts all kinds of different activities. Everything from live bands (offering everything from Rock to Jazz), dance parties, and even a jewelry show. Eventually, Diggs wants to offer free admission and food for the teens, but as of now that is not financially possible.
