Bio: We opened our doors in April 1997 to simply renting rehearsal rooms for local bands in Denton. Following the closing of The Argo, Rubber Gloves stepped up to fill the need of a live music venue in the college town home to the University of North Texas. The first show was a benefit concert featuring Denton locals, The Sillies, in June 1997. Since then, we've hosted shows from all of Denton's finest, as well as the likes of (watch your toes!) Boris, Out Hud, Modest Mouse, Jonathan Richman, Melt Banana, Daniel Johnston, The Fucking Champs, Death Cab For Cutie, Devendra Banhart, The Mountain Goats, High on Fire, John Vanderslice, Lords, Danielson, Hot Water Music, Deerhoof, Royal Trux, The Blood Brothers, Jad Fair, anticon., Low, Les Savy Fav, Broadcast, The Sword, Papa M, Rilo Kiley, Hot Snakes, Of Montreal, At The Drive-In, Joanna Newsom, Alkaline Trio, Rainer Maria,...Trail Of Dead, Pedro the Lion, Wolves In The Throne Room, The Locust, HEALTH, Inspectah Deck, (Smog), TV On The Radio, The Black Heart Procession, Meat Puppets, Cursive, The Shins, Spoon, Jean Grae, Will Oldham, Xiu Xiu, Vic Chesnutt, The Walkmen, Lou Barlow, Prefuse 73, Vampire Weekend, Eric Bachman, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Iron & Wine, Calvin Johnson, Hella, Peter Buck, The Faint, Cat Power, My Morning Jacket, Animal Collective, Unwound, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, Lightning Bolt, Bright Eyes, dälek, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Fiery Furnaces, Ghostland Observatory (along with many, many others) including several shows on our outdoor stage before the city shut that option down. Today, Rubber Gloves is stronger than ever thanks to low cover charges, lack of attitude, and dedicated regulars that make the complex such a success. Our full service bar offers those of legal drinking age the finest in well, call and premium liquors. The stage in our music room is 3 feet tall, 20 feet wide and 10 feet deep.
