Bio: Concerts@Karen’s Place is starting its second year as a house concert series in northeastern Oakland County, Michigan. A chance to see stellar musicians playing intimate concerts in a private home, set on 150 acres of farmland. With a capacity of 50 inside, and a larger capacity for outside performances in the summer, this is a true music lover’s dream. House concerts provide the chance to meet the artist and mingle with like-minded folk in a laid-back atmosphere. Proceeds from the door go to the artist. Tickets are reserved via email on a first-come, first-served basis, with waiting lists set up after. Please, if you are unable to attend after reserving tickets, let us know so someone on the waiting list can be notified. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are provided. As this is a listening room, please consider your child’s age before bringing them, although most shows are child-friendly. (We are not responsible for watching your child. We’re too busy watching our own.) WARNING: As this is a private home, there are pets indoors and out. Please be advised if you have severe allergies to cats or dogs. We have no gerbils, but I’ve seen a few rabbits hanging around. The series focuses on singer-songwriters with an eclectic flair as well as world music artists. Some are established artists, some are on the way to making their name. You may hear something from Appalachia, or Ireland, or Mali, or the streets of your hometown – but what you will always hear is good music that speaks to the heart of us all. Artists selected reflect the musical taste of host Karen Koski, a long-time fixture on the Detroit music scene as a writer (Jam Rag, Metro Times, Billboard), a publicist for bands local and international, and a long-time board member for the Detroit Music Awards.
