Come and see Rubika Sha’s brilliant documentary on the proud history of Rock Against Racism at the Cube Cinema, Dove Street, Bristol
on Thursday 24th March 2022. Doors open 7pm, film starts at 7.30pm.
The late and greatly missed socialist writer David Widgery described Rock Against Racism as “a way of having a revolution without stopping the party”. Concerned by the growing popularity of the National Front and support for the reactionary politician Enoch Powell, a group of young Londoners wrote to the New Musical Express in 1976 urging its readers to join a “rank and file movement against the racist poison in rock music”. That’s exactly what happened: bands toured the country performing Rock Against Racism gigs, and radical politics found a powerful anti-racist soundtrack.
The film will be introduced by Dave Merrick (Bristol Love Music Hate Racism). After the film, and a short break, there will be a panel discussion facilitated by Dr Natalie Hyacinth (Everyday Integration) and Rosina (Bristol Green and Black).
There will be a panel discussion after the event with Bristol musicians and a DJ set from 9.30pm until 11pm. Come and join us for a great evening of anti-racist entertainment.
