Doors open 7pm, film starts at 7.30pm. \n\nThe late and greatly missed socialist writer David Widgery described Rock Against Racism as “a way of having a revolution without stopping the party”. Concerned by the growing popularity of the National Front and support for the reactionary politician Enoch Powell, a group of young Londoners wrote to the New Musical Express in 1976 urging its readers to join a “rank and file movement against the racist poison in rock music”. That’s exactly what happened: bands toured the country performing Rock Against Racism gigs, and radical politics found a powerful anti-racist soundtrack.\n\nThe film will be introduced by Dave Merrick (Bristol Love Music Hate Racism). After the film, and a short break, there will be a panel discussion facilitated by Dr Natalie Hyacinth (Everyday Integration) and Rosina (Bristol Green and Black).\n\nThere will be a panel discussion after the event with Bristol musicians and a DJ set from 9.30pm until 11pm.
