Veteran guitarist, Chris Selby, exits Oblivion Myth, re-emerges as a member of Sintonik.
Nashville, TN, November 18, 2011: “What a roller-coaster ride we have been on this year in Oblivion Myth!” stated founder and guitarist Keith Smith. “We were on track to do more this year than any in OM’s history when drummer Patrick Nickell announced his departure this September to focus on his master’s degree. I think that actually led to the three of us taking a deeper look and re-examining who we are and where we are going. We had been aware of changes going on with Chris, some of which really didn’t line up with the vision and direction of Oblivion Myth and so a decision was made to release him to pursue the direction he wanted to go in”.
“I knew it was coming”, stated guitarist Chris Selby, who had parted ways with the band back in July of 2009, only to rejoin the lineup six months later. This time will be different, as Selby has stated, “I am not coming back this time” and indicated that he would be going in a different direction, which didn’t seem to take long, as indicated by a post dated Thursday, November 17 on Sintonik’s Facebook page, welcoming Selby to their lineup.
“I’ve been aware of Sintonik through my work with Nashville Metal Bands and have spoken with a promoter in their camp as recently as September of this year, making arrangements for NMB to help get the word out for them. They are a great band and I think Chris will be a tremendous addition to their lineup!” stated OM vocalist and founder of Nashville Metal Bands, Ray LeGrand.
Also wasting no time, Oblivion Myth are actively working to fill the vacancy left by Selby. “Onward and upward is what I always say!” remarked Smith, continuing with, “Nothing ever stops this band. We’re like a machine that just keeps moving forward”.
For the remainder of the year, Smith and LeGrand are continuing with auditions and working to complete the EP that was recorded this fall at “We Never Sleep Productions”, which is slated for release in early 2012. The EP, tentatively titled, “Legacy” will include the “War Child” single, which was the first from this project to hit radio waves in June 2011 and received near instant international acclaim with strong responses from the bands long established fan base in Greece as well as new found interest in Indonesia.

The Rutledge LMV in Nashville, TN on September 23rd, 2011 was where it all went down... OM Frontman threw a party to celebrate the wildly successful first year of his, "Nashville Metal Bands" promotion project which has been aimed at promoting and uniting the hard-rock and metal scene in The Music City.
The night saw a number of poignant moments, including SikTom Cole (former Voodoo Prophet), who has been recovering from “Stephens-Johnsons Syndrome" and Greg Messick (Forefathers of Doom) who announced Mindset Defect and spoke about his passion for the scene and of course his friend and band-mate, Vince Liveri who is currently in Hospice, as well as the “Blessing of the Bands” by Sanctuary International Pastor, Bob Beeman who also brought greetings from Megadeth’s David Ellefson.
In addition to mind-blowing performances from 3 Minutes to Live, A Traitor Among Us, Piranah, Ancients and Mindset Defect, this was the final performance for drummer Patrick Nickell of Oblivion Myth. OM cranked out no less than 13 songs including several tracks from 2008’s “Between Light and Shadow” CD, their current single, “War Child” and a bounty of yet to be released songs, including “Life” which saw guest vocals from Ancient’s frontman, Clint Gee.
Nickell wowed the crowd with a frenzied mid-set drum solo before kicking into, “Everlasting Fire”. At the end of the set, chants of, “1 more song” and “drum solo” spurred the band into a scramble. LeGrand, who’s voice blew out at the in the last song reminded the crowd with what was left of his scratchy voice, “Are you really sure you want one more? Oblivion Myth songs are freekin’ long you know!” which prompted a loud cheer from the die-hard late night crowd. To which Ray responded, “Well, I can’t do another one, but I’ll let these boys play for you” as guitarists Keith Smith and Chris Selby along with Nickell lit into the instrumental, “Into The Valley of Unrest”.
Nickell wrote down the following sentiment following the show on OM’s social media sites, “Thanks to everyone who came for my last show tonight. It was a great way to go out. I also appreciate everyone's kind words to me about my drumming...it was very flattering. This was not an easy decision...but it was the right one. I'll still keep playing, and, if the time is right in the future, I’ll be back.” which leaves the door open to Nickell rejoining Oblivion Myth should the opportunity arise.

Nashville, TN, September 09, 2011: “This has been an incredible year for Oblivion Myth” remarked vocalist Ray LeGrand. With the release of their ‘War Child’ single in June sparking renewed international interest in the Tennessee Power/Prog-Metal outfit, it seemed that nothing could slow them down.
“We knew it was coming”, stated guitarist Chris Selby of critically acclaimed drummer and long time friend Patrick Nickell. “He said he would be a part of the band for a year or two before heading off to college back in 2006, so I guess this is long overdue”.
No strangers to lineup changes, Oblivion Myth has been without a permanent bass player since 2010. “But, you just can’t keep this band down” insists guitarist and founding member Keith Smith. “We’ve been playing without a bassist for over a year now and that hasn’t stopped us… but this will force us to take some time away from the stage for a little while”.
In a written statement prepared by Nickell, the now white coated time keeper said, “Over the past few months I have been busy with my last year of pharmacy school and transitioning into the next phase of my life. I feel like I can no longer give enough of myself to Oblivion Myth. I am in a different phase of my life than they are.” Nickell went on to say, “I have been playing music with these guys for almost six years; not only are they great musicians, but they are close friends. So this was a difficult decision. I want to thank everyone that has supported us over the years. It has been a lot of fun, and I don't regret a minute of it. I wish the guys the best and await the next drummer ready to step up to the challenge of keeping the Myth strong!”
LeGrand, who also is the founder of “Nashville Metal Bands” an organization that supports the hard-rock and metal community in Nashville, TN stated that, “NMB’s 1 Year Anniversary Show at The Rutledge on 09/23/2011 will be bitter sweet, marking both a high point on the scene and Patty’s last show with OM”.
In the days following Nickell’s departure the band plan to continue searching for the rhythm section that will propel them forward as well as taking the time to finish tracks recently recorded with Nickell for an EP estimated for release in early 2012.

Oblivion Myth's first new music since the release of the "Between Light and Shadow" CD in 2008 has finally come! "War Child" featuring vocalist Ray LeGrand made it's debut on Nashville's 102.9 The Buzz with Tony Stone last night (June 26, 2011) and the accolades keep coming in strong!
The band have decided to push out singles instead of waiting for the whole CD to be finished, although these tracks will likely be packaged for a CD release at some point in the future. For now, fans can stream or download the track for FREE through the band's Facebook page (Facebook.com/oblivionmythfanpage), their Reverbnation page (Reverbnation.com/oblivionmyth) or their official website www.oblivionmyth.com
