“Dave Marsh has been around. He's been the anchor of the Halifax indie scene since before it was a scene, coming to the fore in the beloved and still occasionally active The SuperFriendz, and of course, as a founding member of The Joel Plaskett Emergency. This is his second disc fronting The True Love Rules, after the 2008 gem debut. I loved that disc so much I've been salivating for this one since. What makes these tracks so enjoyable is how well Marsh has put them together. With a rather encyclopaedic knowledge of rock's past, he can summon just the right guitar line”
Bob Mersereau - CBC

“A big congratulations to Dave for his smokin’ record “The True Love Rules” being nominated for both Rock Recording and Male Solo Recording of the Year. I’m as proud of my involvement in that record as I am my own.”
Joel Plaskett - joelplaskett.com

“Congrats to Joel Plaskett and Dave Marsh on their 2009 Music Nova Scotia nominations! Dave received his first solo nomination(s) for Alternative Artist/Recording and for Musician of the Year for “The True Love Rules”. www.musicnovascotia.ca .”

“Dave Marsh, The True Love Rules (New Scotland) Bursting from behind the Emergency skins, Marsh reveals mad guitar chops and a kinship with everyone from Jimmy Webb to Slade. This mature and reflective album morphs into a colossal stomper live, as on Natal Day weekend at Alderney Landing.”
Doug Taylor - the coast

“We've always anchored the night with Dave Marsh's True Love Rules because, for my money, Dave's act is just about the best in the country and (he'll kill me for saying this) he's the elder statesman of the Halifax scene as I know it. Dave's also got an album's worth of new material that you really ought to hear”
Mike Campbell - http://www.thecarleton.ca/news

“Dave Marsh is a gifted songwriter and his fixation on edgy pop rock has yielded the best record from Halifax’s over-30 set in years.. punk, glam rock, new wave and folk colliding beautifully...70s era Bowie are all over “Darling You, Nothing Else Matters” and “Move You Around.””
Vish Khanna - Exclaim!

“’60s rock, ’70s New York punk and ’80s power pop - to a sardonic future on Forsaken By the Beautiful People, modern love on the title track and Got No Kids of Our Own, and notably looks back at Prince Street’s infamous Backstreet Amusements video arcade on Backstreets Thread”
Stephen Cooke - The Chronicle Herald

“pop gems, including Backstreets Thread and True Love Rules. Marsh is keen on experimenting, so there's the fascinating Move You Around, which features surf guitar and Eddie Cochran rockabilly, as it would have sounded on David Bowie's Low album. Nav Com Tav is a sailor chant-meets-Disney Halloween”
Bob Mersereau - Telegraph-Journal

“In it's 14 tracks, The True Love Rules delivers this in flying colours. For example, the album opens with Backstreets Thread, boasting a Big Star pastiche, including a guitar riff that Chris Bell would have enjoyed immensely.”
quadb - it'snothebandihateit'stheirfans

“ This is a thoroughly enjoyable record by a talented songwriter stepping out from the shadows of his full-time gig. ”
eric lewis - eastcoastnoise

“Perfect not-so perfect pop from the gritty heart and soul of some of the best bands to ever come out of Halifax, The True Love Rules is a slow-burning charmer by a great songwriter in Dave Marsh... composing one helluva debut. ”
Vish Khanna - Radio 3 CBC

“Dave Marsh from the Joel Plaskett Emergency. He’s incredible, the drumming on Down at the Khyber is ridiculous, he’s one of the only drummers I’ve heard who really understands the bottom end. Everybody claims to but nobody really does. ”
Luke Doucet - chronicle herald

“Instead he plays with the sounds of the musical greats like Bowie, Strummer, Iggy, Bell/Chilton, Davies.”
Ack - Herohill
