New York, NY – Oct 12th, 2012 – Rock Asylum Foundation, a non-profit organization that teaches children academics through original rock music, will hold a major fundraising event, The 'Edge Rock' Ball, 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12th at Webster Hall's Grand Ballroom, 125 E. 11th St., NYC. Special guest, rock legend Dee Snider, tops the list of an array of celebrities expected to turn out for the gala event. Created by rocker and TV personality Paulie Z, the Rock Asylum Foundation was created to dynamically enhance students’ academic curriculum via the writing and recording of a vast and diverse catalogue of original rock songs for all academic disciplines. In the past year alone, Rock Asylum has released its first original song and video, “Scientific Method”, detailing the six scientific steps to proving a hypothesis, and seen the participating students’ test scores at P.S. 119 dramatically and positively affected, all at no cost to the schools themselves. During an interview with Time Warner’s NY1 as the “NYer Of The Week”, Paulie explained “When I was teaching, I began noticing a significant disconnect between inspiration and motivation with the students. I noticed the same students that struggled with their academics had no problem remembering the lyrics to their favorite songs.” With the support of honorary board members like Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal of Guns N’ Roses, John Popper of Blues Traveler, Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction and Lance Bass of N'Sync, Rock Asylum Foundation will expand its programs in two schools in Brooklyn this year, building on our previous successes, while looking forward to their new students’ next achievements. The 'Edge Rock' Ball will feature performances by The Kin, ZO2, Open Till Midnight, Jillette Johnson, and of course, Special Guest Dee Snider. In addition, there will be a special tribute to Honoree Lisa Fernandez, Principal of Brooklyn Public School 119. VIP ticket holders will be treated to the culinary contributions of Top Chef Danny Gagnon, owner of Dora Nonnie in Long Island and Chef Rachon Banks, chef at Manhattan Proper and owner of a boutique catering company, The Yakamein Shop. Proceeds from ticket sales and a silent auction will go directly toward the Rock Asylum Foundation and the students in the participating schools helping them build toward their ultimate goal of reaching thousands of students in schools across the country.
