“The person who walked away with the $1,000 top prize was Melissa Hetzler, who turned in a stunning rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Believe in You and Me." While the participants performed, Flav hung around the stage, tightly hugging anyone in sight and nodding to a DJ's beats. A judging panel that included Power 92's Lonnie B, WWBT-TV's Aaron Gilchrist, and Mike Street of 105.6 FM The Beat, ranked each artist on a scale of 1 to 5, usually bestowing Paula Abdul-like praise on them, but sometimes offering gentle criticism. Hetzler earned a round of 5's and spurred Flav into a lecture about racism. "So what if you white?" Flav said to the powerful singer. "It's not about your color, it's about how you act here," he said, pointing to his temple. "No matter what race or religion we come from, we are all God's children on the planet Earth."”

“Hetzler dazzled the crowd with a rousing rendition of a Whitney Houston song. Hetzler was announced the winner later that night. Hetzler said she has been singing in front of large groups of people for a long time, so she wasn't nervous.”
