Hailing from the Georgia coast, Zach Deputy has infused his earthy blues, roots-rock and soul with a bit of the tropical humidity of Calypso and reggae. Maybe it is a natural result of living and performing along the Southeast's beaches for the last four or five years, maybe it is a conscious desire to spice up the intuitive simplicity of his native, regional R&B with the exotic rhythms of the islands. Either way, the result is an original sound as comfortable and accessible as worn flip-flops, open and inviting like seaside cabana and full of flavor surprises like a New Orleans gumbo.

Having toured the country in his early 20's with a couple of bands that just didn't inspire him, Zach Deputy followed his muse back to Savannah, where he began to craft his own approach to music as a solo artist. A tasty guitar player with a tremendous vocal range, natural stage presence and contagious playfulness and humor, Zach embraced the creative freedom of performing alone, but soon realized it also had its limitations. Thus, he began to employ live looping as a means of filling out the sound. Layers of vocal beat boxing fill in for the drums, rhythmic guitar tracks in different tunings flesh out the melody and the thump of the bass. Soaring lead vocals, harmonies, choruses and guitar leads—all of this made possible through simple technology, but all of it realized and delivered by a skill and mastery of technique and made pure through the injection of warm, heartfelt soul.

Zach Deputy-- with percussionist (and childhood friend) Paul Kearns at his side-- has been honing his technique and developing his repertoire through performing 250-300 shows per year for the last couple of years. Last summer he had 15 engagements per week in places like Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach and St. Simon's Island. His live show now has such a full sound that he has even had five-piece bands open shows. The tireless work ethic has paid off, as audiences are reacting with genuine joy and passion. Locals come out every week in towns where Zach performs regularly, and tourists caught up in the fun have been taking the music back home, creating fan bases in places where Zach Deputy has yet to travel.
