About
WhaleHawk (Jacob Sanders) has been composing, performing, arranging, and producing music his whole life. From a young age Mr. Sanders showed great interest and promise in music, excelling in his orchestral studies on several different instruments such as piano, violin and alto sax. He then auditioned and was accepted to The Denver School of The Arts for the Creative Writing program. He graduated 7 years later and was accepted into the Jazz and Commercial Music Program at Lamont School of Music. During his 4 years of college he received numerous awards including DownBeat Jazz Magazine’s “Top College Soloist of 2002.” He also had his original large ensemble work “Tops of Trees” performed and recorded by the school’s top jazz orchestra.
It was also during college that he formed the band Chronophonic which toured the Front Range of Colorado extensively sharing the stage with national and local acts alike. WestWord a local paper had this to say of the band….“Chronophonic, a talented collective composed mainly of music majors from a variety of local academies, is living proof that Denver does have vital, contemporary-jazz-influenced music” He composed, arranged, sang lead vocals, and led the killer horn section of Chronophonic for 3 years. After the band dissipated Mr. Sanders turned his focus to composition and moved to New York City. In New York City he has performed with several different ensembles and played in all 5 boroughs, Atlantic City N.J., and Puerto Rico. Mr. Sanders has provided the soundtracks to several documentaries (Puppet Rampage, The Triumph of William Henry Harrison, and Unlimited-Renewable Energy) and most recently finished work on "Back Door Channels" a film documenting the men behind the 1979 Israel/Egypt peace treaty. In cooperation with his publishing house CueBro Publishing, WhaleHawk is becoming a fixture in the world of original licensed music. He has credits on over 25 studio albums as composer, performer, arranger and producer and has built an impressive foundation for a most promising career in music.
