About
WEAK13 BAND HISTORY 1999-Present day
In 1999, just thirteen weeks before the millennium, a band by the name of WEAK13 played it's first ever gig in a small British pub in Kidderminster during a time when cover bands were popular and original artists were almost non-existent. This was also the first time a metal band had played at what is now known as 'The Tap House'. The small crowd loved it, it was a fresh new sound, original and raw. After the gig the band were told they were too loud and were banned from playing there ever again. WEAK13 had officially entered the Live circuit. The band created and led by Nick J.Townsend started playing shows in and around the Midlands, moshpits, low-tuned guitars and angry lyrics soon became a trademark of WEAK13.
In 2001 the band decided it was time to capture their sound onto CD and recorded the track 'Prouder Than You' (Produced by Cob Webb, mixed by Miles Barton). The song showed Nick J.Townsend skills at song writing and shocked many with its brutal guitar sound, unorthodox vocals and overall power. Nick J.Townsend realised that he had created a monster, but he needed to make sure future material was equally as powerful. It had occurred to Nick J.Townsend that the songs which were received well Live became the best tunes on recordings, so Weak13 did as many small gigs as possible and experimented with new material all the time. 2003 was the first time WEAK13 did a mini UK tour, about 20 dates in about the space of a month and a half. Starting off in Wolverhampton and going as far a field as Plymouth. It was hard work, a real test, but the tour was completed by the band. WEAK13 got it's first opportunity to play with a big signed artist and opened up for SKINDRED at the 'Edwards No.8' venue in Birmingham and were amazed to find that they had ten times more fans there than the headlining band. 'It was weird, when Skindred came on, the front row was full of people wearing Weak13 T-Shirts, I remember Benji the singer of SKINDRED joking on stage asking if he was at the right gig!' (Quote: Nick J.Townsend). A few months later WEAK13 played to it's biggest crowd yet and performed at the INK & IRON festival on the main stage at the Carling Academy in Birmingham. After some successful gigs it was time for WEAK13 to rest and work out the next step.
WEAK13 RECORDINGS & PUBLISHING DEAL
Nick J.Townsend decided he needed time out to write more stronger material for WEAK13, over a year was spent experimenting with lyrics and songs. In 2005 Nick J.Townsend hooked up with producer & sound engineer Matt Tarbuck (aka Neutron Tears) and the two of them spent the next couple of years engineering tracks for WEAK13. It was decided that quality, and not quantity, would be the driving force behind future WEAK13 material. A lot of recordings were made, some were scrapped if they weren't to Nick J.Townsend liking, eventually Nick J.Townsend decided to make two CD releases. The first titled 'THE VERY WORST OF WEAK13 - VOLUME 1' which would be 13 track album that fans could download for free off the Internet and the other would be a very well produced 4-track EP called 'DEATH MACHINE'.

To celebrate 10 years of the music of WEAK13 an album will be released which will change the music industry. Nick J.Townsend announced on 09.09.09 that he has an unreleased 43 track album which he will release at his discretion. Until now he has never released a WEAK13 studio album. The 43 track album has taken him 10 years to write and in his own words will be "One of the most dangerous albums ever". Nick is has recorded most of the album with an engineer who uses very unorthodox methods who goes under the name 'Crazy MULE'.
Fréhel - Si tu n'étais pas là has inspired the WEAK13 album.
"The sound of the old 1930’s vinyl really made me think about how I want the whole album to sound, I want to capture unwanted noise and give it a place and home on WEAK13 songs. Valves and hiss are instruments of their own"
