“David Slutes, the entertainment director at Congress, says a friend came up with the idea for the Sand Jam. "I said, 'That is such a great name,' " Slutes recalls. "I can run just on that name." Artists scheduled to perform include Steel Ribbon, Gaza Strip, The Gallery, The V-Knights, Angel Perez and Vicky Nelson. "Each of the bands has at least one member who is a vet," says Slutes, "except V-Knights." That's because the band members in the Phoenix-based V-Knights aren't eligible to serve in the military yet. The band is led by 10-year-old twins Gabriel (bass) and Christian (guitar) Velasquez. Younger brother Alex, 8yr old, plays drums, and older bro Michael is on rhythm guitar. While they aren't old enough to serve, their father, Gabriel Velasquez, is a veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force.”

This year's Proof is in the Pudding competition will be held on October 15th and 16th at The Rock at 32nd St. (13625 N. 32nd St., Phx.) from 6:30-9:00 pm. An elite panel of judges will choose the top 24 in each category. The selected bands/artists will be notified through email or phone and will compete at the PRE-FINALS held on November 5th, 6 th, and 7 th at the Hard Rock Café. The top 3 bands and 3 soloists of each night will advance to the finals on November 19th and 20th at Cooperstown. The winning band and solo artist will perform with Alice Cooper & friends at the Christmas Pudding at the Comerica Theatre on Saturday, December 8th, 2012
