Bio: Venue formally known as Basement 243 has closed its doors, re-establishing itself as Crowbar: Brisbane’s new rock’n’roll venue and bar. Nestled in the heart of Fortitude Valley, at 243 Brunswick St, Crowbar provides new opportunities for Brisbane’s live music scene, especially since the recent demise of much loved venues such as Woodland and the Spring Hill Hotel. Trad Nathan, Anthony Aitken and Damien Coward conceived Crowbar to establish an artist-friendly venue, suitable for all hybrids of rock’n’roll, and a place to hang out and party for those who prefer their music loud and harsh. The collective music industry experience of all three individuals -playing, managing, marketing, merchandising, booking, promoting, releasing records, and arranging artist transport logistics- will ensure Crowbar achieves the acclaim it deserves. Commenting on the venue, Trad Nathan, said “Basement 243 never really established itself as part of the touring circuit for Brisbane, national and international bands. When I first saw the venue, with its perfect sightlines, underground vibe, ample backstage area, pinball machines, pool tables, couches, I knew this could be Brisbane’s best 200 capacity venue for musicians to shred and people to party. After we installed a new P.A, re-built the stage, painted the walls, hired bar legends, and changed the hideous Basement sign, the potential was overwhelming.” With an exciting slew of local, national and international bands booked, weekly club nights including Double Denim - playing bands such as Turbonegro, Fugazi, Foals and Led Zeppelin etc - Crowbar is ready to a revitalize a moribund venue and inject a healthy dose of riff raff into the Brisbane music scene.
