Bio: Big Walker Lookout was named a Crooked Road Heritage Music Trail Affiliated Venue in 2012, and we have been so tickled to become a member of that prestigious organization who’s purpose is to preserve and promote the music and heritage of the Appalachian and people! We really love the opportunity to showcase our local talent and give local performers a venue to share their love of music with our customers. During 2013 Big Walker Lookout & BW Country Store will offer craft & art demonstrations by local and regional crafters, historic demonstrations such as Blacksmithing, Lye Soap Making, Apple Butter Cooking, Historic Story Telling, and Clogging on Saturdays beginning in May. But our biggest feature will be our music concerts, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, by our local musicians. Our music events have become a very intricate part of our operation, and we hope will be a great asset to you as well! Guidelines for Big Walker Lookout Performers Performances consist of 2 (45 minute) "sets", generally lasting from 1 to 3pm or 2 to 4pm. With a 15 minute break in the middle. (We are flexible on the time, so let me know if you need to be earlier or later to arrive) Performance dates are filled based on the order in which bands get their preferred dates to us, first come first booked. Bands perform on volunteer basis, but are encouraged to collect “tips” from the crowd, as well as, sell your CDs and other merchandise pertaining to your band before, during, and after your performance. In some cases, BWL may also purchase your materials for resell in our Country Store. If you are interested in selling your CD’s to us wholesale, please contact us. Music performed should be bluegrass (old time, traditional, etc), folk, gospel, or Appalachian style music, or the like. Good family style entertainment. We prefer music played by musicians, as opposed to “pre-recorded” but in some cases we will make allowances, so let us know up front which you plan to use. Big Walker Lookout is able to provide all sound equipment, mics, etc. You are welcome to use your own, if you like, but we can have it all set up and ready for you when you arrive. Just let us know ahead of time if you wish to use our system. We promote your performances on our Facebook page: Big Walker Lookout, and we invite you to “Like” our page so you may follow and share our events with your friends, fans, and family. We also promote our events on our website www.scenicbeauty-va.com as well as www.virginia.org, and in the Crooked Road Events e-blast, as well as in all of our other print and radio advertising, and any where else we can think of!!! We take pictures and shoot video of your performances here, and we share and use that material in a lot of our advertising as well. WE APPRECIATE our performers and we take your time & talent very seriously and do all that we can to promote you!
