Bio: SINGERS is a live music venue and full service bar located in the Historic Chestnut Street District of Downtown Hays, Kansas. History of the building and how SINGERS got its name: The building was constructed in 1946 and became the Singer Sewing Center in Downtown Hays. It remained the Singer Sewing Center until 1970. After that several business occupied the building including a furniture store and a teen center. In the mid-80s, it became Around The World which was an ice cream shop. Later, Around The World switched from ice cream to costumes and hobby supplies. Around The World closed in 2009. The building is part of the Chestnut Street District in Downtown Hays which is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was renovated to resemble as closely as possible its original outward appearance. If you have family members with any pictures of not only this building but any part of the East 100 block of 12th street prior to 1970, we and the Ellis County Historic Society would be interested in seeing them. Thanks!!
