Bio: The New York Sheet Music Society began in 1980 with a small but dedicated group of collectors, who met at The Songwriters Hall of Fame Headquarters (through the courtesy of its President, the late Sammy Cahn) to exchange sheet music and stories about songwriters, singers and songs. From the start the meetings were lively affairs and they continue to be to this very day. Over the years, each and every Program has been remarkable with legendary songwriters talking about their careers: Sammy Cahn, Irving Caesar, Ervin Drake, Edward Eliscu, Chet Forrest & Robert Wright, Sheldon Harnick, Burton Lane, Jack Lawrence, Gerald Marks, Richard Maltby & David Shire, July Styne, Mitchell Parish, George David Weiss, Stanley Adams, Sid Lippman, Hy Zaret. to name just a few. Renowned Collectors, Historians, Authors, Musical Directors and the cream of the cabaret, theater and music worlds have participated: Steve Ross, John Wallowitch, Daryl Sherman, Max Morath, Robert Kimball, Oscar Brand, Peter Howard, Barbara Lea, Margaret Whiting, Maxene Andrews, Barbara Brussell, Julie Wilson, Karin Oberlin, and many, many others. Every May, we hold an Annual New Songwriter Series to encourage and showcase the stars of the future.
