Remaining in obscurity until recently, Velvet have been carving out their own retro leaning guitar pop in the Southeast for the better part of a decade. Their first blip on the radar, the eclectic Where Are the People? (Eskimo Kiss Records 2001) won critical acclaim as the band relocated to the artistically rich breeding grounds of central North Carolina pop giants Let's Active, The dB's and Ben Folds Five.
Their 2006 release, The Juggernaut, recorded at Mitch Easter's Fidelitorium, establishes Velvet's footprint in the cement of the classic pop sidewalk and revives the thinking person's pop genre with unique songs, clever arrangements and well-played instruments. The Durham Herald-Sun declares, “This is pop music, delightfully disheveled and rockingly sassy”.
