With one of the most amazing female vocalists that can do both the sweet clean vocals to the nearly Black Metal growls that fit perfectly with their aggressive style they seem to reshape the whole Viking/Folk Metal and mould it into something that it should have been years ago. “Aus Kanada kommt das Sextett VALFREYA um Frontfrau Crook, die, zusammen mit Keyboarder Shark, für den größten Teil der Kompositionen auf “Path To Eternity” verantwortlich ist. VALFREYA orientieren sich unter anderem an WINTERSUN, EQUILIBRIUM und MOONSORROW. Gespielt wird äußerst abwechslungsreicher, sehr melodiöser, leicht sinfonischer Viking/Folk Metal, dem eine Akustikgitarre auch mal einen mittelalterlichen Touch verleiht. Dazu gesellen sich Gitarren, ein deutlich heraushörbarer Bass, ein eher zurückhaltendes Schlagzeug und ein atmosphärisches, nie aufdringliches Keyboard. Harfenklänge vernimmt man zu Beginn von ‘Ocean’s Assault’. Getragen wird “Path To Eternity” aber von der sehr variablen Stimme der attraktiven Frontfrau. Mal ist ihr Gesang feenhaft zart, mal hexenhaft giftig, mal hell wie ein perlender Bach und mal dunkel wie ein geheimnisvoller Bergsee, dann wieder sinfonisch erhaben, ohne sich jedoch in opernhafte Höhen aufzuschwingen. .......”

“Mit Valfreya steht mal wieder ein hoffnungsvoller Debütant in den Startlöchern. Die aus Montreal stammende Band ist ein Vertreter des Viking Metals und kombiniert demzufolge Death- / Blackmetal-Elemente mit Folkeinflüssen und wandert damit auf den Spuren von Equilibrium oder Moonsorrow, von denen sie hörbar beeinflusst wurden. Als Aktivposten erweist sich dabei Sängerin Crook, die nicht nur für den überwiegenden Teil der Kompositionen zuständig ist, sondern mit ihrem klaren Gesang auch einen guten Gegenpart zu den ansonsten vertretenden Grolws darstellt. Folk und Metal ist ja nicht unbedingt eine Kombination, die jedem zusagt. Valfreya haben hier aus meiner Sicht aber ein guten Maß gefunden und kleistern das Album nicht komplett mit Flöten, Harfen, etc. zu, sondern lassen den Songs Luft zum Atmen. Insgesamt kann man konstatieren, dass die Kanadier mit „Path To Eternity“ ein recht reifes Debütalbum vorgelegt haben, auch wenn bei mir in der zweiten Hälft nach und nac”

If you are looking for a release that is both melodic and intense, “Path to Eternity” is a good option for people that enjoy an overall Folk/Fantasy theme in their music. Valfreya is an excellent band that has enough potential to rival any European ‘big name’ band at their craft, and people should give them the attention they need so don’t miss out on this excellent release.”

“17 / 20 Des riffs et mélodies qui n'ont rien a envier à certains groupes de la scène internationale, l'alternance entre chant guttural et lyrique de Crook, un clavier épique bien présent, et une grosse, grosse batterie !! Insérez le CD dans votre chaine stéréo et vous voilà transporté dans une époque ou mythes et légendes sont le quotidien, affûtez bien vos lames, une glorieuse bataille vous attend ! Il est difficile de cataloguer réellement les morceaux de Path to Eternity, la musique proposée par Valfreya étant encline à varier entre différentes ambiances au sein d'un même morceau, ce qui d’après moi fait la richesse des compositions ici présentes. En résumé, Path to Eternity est un album qui permet de passer un excellent moment, Valfreya nous fournissant un travail convaincant, très pro, se taillant de fait un place parmi les groupes à surveiller de près dans les années à venir. “Valfreya a conclu la soirée en jouant la totalité de leur album Path To Eternity. Le groupe a fait preuve d’un professionnalisme qui fait foi de leur dévotion à leur musique : La décoration, l’éclairage, le son, les costumes, tout y était pour assurer l’atmosphère folk metal (y compris la bière pas chère du Café Chaos, l’alcool étant nécessaire à la survie de tout barbare se respectant). Le chant de Crook se prouve comme d’habitude être un excellent mélange de clean et de growl, et elle a su non seulement raconter à la foule l’épopée qu’est l’album Path To Eternity mais l’embarquer de belle façon dans le jeu. Le groupe a même offert un wall of death à la foule qu’ils avaient d’abord armée d’épées en mousse, sur la chanson Confront Immensity. Ils ont terminé sur une nouvelle composition qui promet encore beaucoup pour l’avenir, et par la prestation à l’extérieur d’un cracheur de feu”

“Je m’attendais à quelque chose de bon, ayant écouté leurs nouvelles chansons sur YouTube, mais pas autant que ça!Entre chaque chanson, on avait droit à une petite introduction qui était pas trop longue et qui nous donnait assez d’infos pour mieux la comprendre.Crook passait très bien des clean vocals aux screams intenses. On entendait très bien chaque instrument, même le keyboard qui n’a jamais été mis à part et qu’on pouvait très bien entendre le côté épique qu’il donne à la mélodie. Passant des riffs très techniques, à des mélodiques, à des riffs intenses et violents, on pouvait sentir le grand mélange que représentait Valfreya.Un mélange qui se marie absolument bien dans leur cas !En parlant de ça, j’ai déjà vu Eluveitie et Amon Amarth ensemble, si on y aurait ajouté Valfreya, ça aurait été le show du siècle ! Sérieusement, je vous souhaite de vous rendre là et vous êtes vraiment bien parti pour ça ! Ça été une des meilleures soir”
