“There are moments on his debut, self-titled EP where Fort Worth singer-songwriter Tripp Mathis seems blissfully, totally lost in the music he’s making. (Time seems to stretch and nearly stop during the expansive opener, Fort Worth Sunset.) It’s not difficult to begrudge him such an infatuation — the folk and country-tinged rock music (think shades of Ray LaMontagne) he makes has a sprawling, messy appeal, particularly when Mathis’ raspy, raw voice is added to the mix.
