Bio
KEITH McDonald here aka KEITH or, sometimes, Keith Whiner. Whether it's me playing solo — or with my Whiners band mate: Jamie Manov (the Spock to my Kirk, the Martin to my Ian, the Les to my Paul), or with our sometimes other Whiners - David Green & Shannon Morton and now G.B. Macintosh — the music we play is "whinersmusic".
About
Hello from KEITH & Jamie:
How are you today? Update as of November 1, 2009
We did the gig and here's video #1 as we kicked off with Limin':
Be sure and check out the recorded version on our player and compare notes :0)
Another Moon Song What KEITH likes most about creating songs is the fact that they enter the ether having never been there before. Today is October 13 and Another Moon Song didn't exist yesterday. This new song name checks Jamie's Lago Moon and KEITH is trying to write something gentle after rockin' things up so much over the last year.
They say you shouldn't write about the moon and june and soon and other cliche lines that come out - hence the "couldn't be so wrong" line. GB Macintosh joins in on some cello soloing. Indeed! Anyhow ... "you better believe"!

America
A new demo but one of KEITH's first songs - going back to 2000. America gets brought out when it seems like the idea of what the US stands for (freedom and justice for all etc) gets "confused". LIke, currently, with the health care debate, it's pretty clear to us that there isn't real equality access there with millions of people denied basic health care. And, yet, it just seems so PAINFUL for the Americans to allow more access to medicine. No need gong much further by way of explanation really.
This version is done up by KEITH and probably won't make it to The Whiners Happy Accident but it sure was a good cathartic day to get a more refined version of this out. Has definitely got lots of rumble for the those who like the bottom end but don't make yourself sick over it or anything.
Make My Day (50 Gigs of Memories)
Another demo for consideration for the album. This one actually has a story to it of sorts - a dude, on the job, loses it and does the boss in - just in time for a weekend picnic! If we ever do a video I guess it would make sense visually. Kind of like our version of the "I Don't Like Mondays" scenario. See if you can figure it out - too much watching of TV's Dexter program I think. It's rockin' but short with KEITH doing up the demo.
Just The Way That Another song coming together pretty quickly. We put the demo up right away after a hard day's Monday's work on it (appropriate for Labour Day). And on Sunday, September 13, we added refined slide and bass after KEITH did another vocal pass on it. The mix is pretty close now. Jamie feels, and KEITH agrees, the slide is an awesome add and is starting to define a Whiners v.3.0 sound.
The song is actually one of the earliest songs KEITH wrote - just after getting the Sheryl Crow signature Gibson guitar several years back. He played his J160 on it here with some trem and phaser added on the dirty side. It gives a two guitar texture sound but played at the same time with the Band in Box split set up KEITH has. Jamie is using the Dan Electro tuned to open D and mic-ed off the amp for some tube sound albeit a bit subtle. We worked hard on this one to stay on the organic side - the Lago Moon folk side vs. the rock side we've been doing a lot of.

Lago Moon
Speaking of Lago, we've added the latest mix of this with the new vocal and completed bass line. This one is our homage to George in both the vocal line and the slide bits. Lago is by far one of the most popular Whiner songs so it's good to get the recorded version out. We've kept the Free Times Cafe version as an exclusive here since it has such a great spirit to it. We hope we captured it again with the studio version.
Papa's Venus Speaking of rock ... this is a song inspired by the acquisition of a new (to KEITH) Fender Venus bought a few weeks ago from photog extraordinaire, John Papa. GB Macintosh helps out on this one as it was done later in the day after Jamie and KEITH finished up some work on the epic Lago Moon - soon come ... to here (and to hear) as a finished track. The demo is up now as an exclusive track. The Venus has some crank and it's pretty high in the mix. KEITH's had the riff for a while but no melody is coming so we'll leave it as an instrumental for now.
Also we put up the newest mixes of Angry and Limin With You - removing a bit of distorted levels and adding a doubled voice mix.
A whole lot of "Easier" ... the recordings are ongoing:
Posted the third and what could be the final mix of "Easier" - this latest one is much tighter and focused with Jamie now having added backing VOX and some rumbling bass fills on top of the previous bass line laid down on Sunday, July 26. This is a true "Whiners 3" version of the song what with Dave, Jamie and KEITH all having parts.

Whinersmusic: What's "whinersmusic" all about? It's our own genre for when people ask who we sound like. We have lots of influences but we deal mostly in happy/sad life experiences be it through our original songs or cover choices. So the music's not necessarily rock or folk or punk or pop. It's what it needs to be when it needs to be. We introduced our drummer on the Easier track too: G.B. Macintosh. He can't make live gigs though at least for now.
