About
Jeremy Ezell is breaking into the music scene championing a rare brand of passionate, honest, pop/rock on his debut release of Love and Law, available early 2009. A year ago Jeremy left his long term project, Wilson Empire, to build a new direction for his music. With years of experience touring the Southeast, opening spots for national artists, and two very successful independent recordings, Jeremy's goals remain quite simple: to write, record, and tour winning the affection of audiences with his intelligent lyrics and infectious melody. Those same lyrics and melody caught the attention of Producer Dan Hannon (Manchester Orchestra, Aaron Shust), who lent his hand to five of the nine tracks comprising the soundscape that is of Love and Law. His songs have garnered him Best Songwriter titles and praises from press and fans alike. Jeremy says, "I paint life with words and sound." Elizabeth Cline of New York Magazine writes, "A Jeremy Ezell song is high drama and pop contagion. His songs are stories of heartache and faith that follow unapologetically in the footsteps of futurists like Phil Collins, Muse, and Radiohead."
Jeremy began his musical journey as a child following in the footsteps of his father, a studied musician and accomplished vocalist. His dad recorded a small independent gospel album in the early 80's and did some touring to promote the release. Jeremy's first studio experiences came when he would visit during recording sessions, and his first early childhood performances were duets with his dad. "I have very fond memories of singing with my dad," says Jeremy, "He is still a minister and still sings beautifully."
During high school, Jeremy explored the angst of grunge and punk to find his ear begin to settle in the catchy quirkiness of smart pop/rock. Jeremy regales, "During my junior year of high school my music teacher gave me an 80's cassette of Phil Collin's Hello I Must Be Going, and my ear was never the same. I was instantly a fan." The meshing of such contrasting influences is accomplished seamlessly on Jeremy's album of Love and Law, especially in the driving guitars and refreshing melodies of Forever is a Breath or the epic spaces of Tragedy.
Ezell's debut of Love and Law opens with the heavily romantic Silhouettes of History. Silhouettes of History harkens back to all of the best parts of the power rock ballad with neo-classical hints. The song drives and pushes through a truly "contagious" chorus and then opens into the sonic landscapes of a symphony. "I am admittedly a fan of Beethoven, and one afternoon I was driving through North Florida listening to his 9th Symphony. I was instantly inspired, and I pulled over to jot down the beginnings of what would become Silhouettes of History," Jeremy explains.
Of Love and Law captures the span of Ezell's influences and is an appetite whetting taste of future recordings. The album itself is a story of love and law from the passionate petitions of Silhouettes of History, to the power of Words, to the redemption of My World is White, and the classic heartache of Feeling Love. The album closes with the quiet soulful Behind Your Eyes, which appears as an in-studio live recording. "Brad [Fisher, producer/engineer] and I wanted to capture me sitting at a piano pouring my heart into the microphone, and I believe we got it."
The new year will send Jeremy Ezell into an exciting schedule of touring, promotion, and possibly more recording. Plans for a full-on Southeast tour are already in the works, with follow-ups spanning the entire East Coast. Jeremy will also be working on new material for his next full-length album. "Writing is a huge part of my passion. I love performing, but writing is where I get to create what I eventually perform." Ezell's prolificacy for quality music has earned him a valued reputation among his peers and has made him a go-to for co-writes.
Writer, performer, singer, Jeremy Ezell's passion and his excitement for music go far beyond a business plan or a tour bus, Ezell is focused on people, concentrating his efforts on making lasting relationships not just "fair-weather fans". "I've always wanted to be a musician. I've always wanted to invest in people. This is the perfect job. I get to do both." Jeremy is surrounded by a team of people that he has had the opportunity to befriend over his years of touring. Jeremy Ezell and his team of close friends are poised for success with the release of of Love and Law. 2009 is a year to watch Jeremy Ezell and his career as it unfolds.
