THE SPIRITUAL BAT BIO (ITALIANO) The Spiritual Bat, Dario Passamonti e Rosetta Garri’, e’ un’evoluzione di Spiritual BatS (plurale). Inizialmente, dopo la trasmutazione da Spiritual BatS ‘al singolare’, Dario e Rosetta intendevano pubblicare musica strumentale, come dimostra il demo strumentale Through The Shadows (2005), interamente registrato e mixato da Dario (Chitarra, Basso, Sintetizzatore) e Rosetta (Percussions and Programming). Tale demo fu addirittura masterizzato da Eric Hammer, ma ebbe una circolazione limitatissima. Il duo infatti desiderava fortemente la registrazione di una batteria acustica per l’album ufficiale Through The Shadows. Fu finalmente convocato il batterista Alessio Santoni per una session, e fu in quel periodo (2007/08) che Rosetta, gia’ batterista nel CD Sacrament della precedente incarnazione (1999), colta da improvvisa ispirazione, scrisse i testi ed incise le parti vocali dell’album, debuttando come cantante. Spiritual BatS era un progetto del 1992, fondato da Dario Passamonti e Matteo Bracaglia. La loro prima pubblicazione fu l’omonimo vinile ep del 1993. Il progetto ebbe diverse formazioni, ma presentava sempre opere dei Pittori Alchimisti (gruppo di artisti di cui Dario fa parte e che avevano anche partecipato alla Biennale di Venezia del 1986, Sezione Arte e Alchimia), come pure loro installazioni e proiezioni durante le performance live. Nel novembre 1994 gli Spiritual Bats ebbero il piacere e l’onore di aprire per Rozz Williams (Christian Death) e i suoi Daucus Karota al Black Out a Roma. L’album Confession fu registrato nel maggio 1995, immediatamente dopo un concerto al Velvet. La percussionista shamanica Rosetta era presente a quel concerto ed entro’ a farne parte dopo breve tempo. Il CD Sacrament fu registrato e pubblicato nel 1999, dopo il concerto al CB’s Gallery (Alchemy) di New York nell’agosto del 1998, dove era stato proiettato il video Funeral Cries. In aggiunta alle opere degli Alchimisti, Sacrament sfoggia orgogliosamente la grafica di Eric Hammer (Requiem In White, Mors Syphilitica, Weep), oggi noto come Doc Hammer (Venture Brothers). Nel 1999 il brano Crucifixion fu incluso nella compilation The Unquiet Grave I della storica etichetta CLEOPATRA. Nel 2004 Dario e Matteo decisero di procedere ognuno per la propria strada. Dario ha continuato a portare alla luce le sue visioni con Rosetta. Grazie all’incoraggiamento di alcuni fan e ad una promessa fatta all’amico e fonico Claudio Mura, scomparso improvvisamente nel 2008, i due, che precedentemente erano stati schivi nei confronti delle performance live, hanno deciso di iniziare a condividere la loro intima dimensione. Due tour negli Stati Uniti hanno avuto luogo nei due anni seguenti: il Through The Shadows Tour nel 2009 e il Lowlands Tour nel 2010 (con i Sullen Serenade, 26 date, 2 mesi, oltre 20.000 chilometri). Nel 2011 The Spiritual Bat firma un accordo con Danse Macabre Records/ALiVE per il rilascio del nuovo album Cruel Machine il 27 maggio. Per la prima volta la copertina viene affidata ad un artista al di fuori del gruppo degli Alchimisti, il visionario spagnolo Chatarrero Ciencuervos, del Circo Chatarrero (www.circocatarrero.com). Nel 2012 una speciale edizione Americana a tiratura limitata (formato 6″ x 9″, include un poster 8.5″ x 11″ ) viene pubblicata dall’etichetta di Filadelfia Industry8/Digital Ferret, seguita dall’estivo Cruel Machine US Tour 2012, oltre 20 tappe, on the road per due mesi, consolidando vecchie e nuove amicizie (musicali e non), nei circuiti dark americani, un viaggio in cui il duo acquista forza e presenza sul palco. Di ritorno in Italia, il duo riprende le prove con i live musicians, scoprendo pero’ che il nuovo bassista non puo’ prendere impegni per motivi personali. Il batterista Alessio Santoni, grande professionista che gia’ aveva collaborato su Through the Shadows e Cruel Machine, nonche’ amico di vecchia data conosciuto tramite il fonico Claudio Mura, continua con dedizione questo suo viaggio con The Spiritual Bat. Nel frattempo si annuncia la importante collaborazione con Motherdance (booking agency di artisti quali 45 Grave, Alien Sex Fiend, Faith and The Muse) sul territorio europeo e si conferma quella con l’italiana Wardance (booking che ha lavorato con Killing Joke, The Stranglers, Attrition, Frozen Autumn). Front-woman Rosetta Garri appeared on stage wearing beautiful and traditional Goth garments with a white shroud. She looked like something out of a fairytale. Her co-conspirator and creator of The Spiritual Bat, Dario Passamonti, waited to engage his guitar during a spooky intro the opening track “Once Upon a Time.” Passamonti’s guitar work is matched only by his mysticism. After a few months, the band is complete with the recruitment of a longtime friend of the three boys: Desio. Since the first production, the band's music is melancholic, kaleidoscopic and evocative; these features allow the quartet to perform at some festivals, with considerable public involvement and above all great feedback from the critics.After appearing in several compilations, in March 2008 the boys decide to record their first self-produced EP "It'll be cold this winter". The album features sounds rather different: living elements classically identified as indie rock with other ones marked of dark / new wave music in emotional, dark and hypnotic mood. The CPV continue their live activities with the intent to promote the EP and trying to make inroads in the vast underground scene: in July 2009 the band wins the X edition of the competition held in POPOLISOUND at Popoli (PE).In their performances next to the 'historical' songs, the band proposes new compositions in which the elements and Ambient Wave is growing rapidly and the songs are more dynamic and direct.Subsequently, the boys devoted themselves to the cinema! In fact the band realized the soundtrack of the short film of Loreto Valente "ICS Theme" out in October 19, 2009.In the summer of 2009 the band records an unexpected setback: the vocalist Cristian due to personal problems, leaves the band. The separation is on friendly terms, and consensual. But the band does not give up! The boys continue to compose music and begin the search for a new singer.After several hearings, Massimo (previously active with the melancholic metal band from Rome Oblivio) becomes the new singer of the band helping to expand the influence of the band with a greater propensity to melancholy and melodic tones.Christine Plays Viola realize in the month of January 2010 the demo "Useless To See Beyond"; a track taken from this EP is included in new short film by director Loreto Valente entitled "The Nine Crosses" out in March 2010.The 8 of April 2010 is a great day for the band: the boys in the prestigious contest 'Italy Wave Love Festival', as regional winners, off a ticket to the national finals scheduled at Livorno from July 21 to 25.thThe band doesn’t stop! On June 12, 2010 they win the 'Orquestra 6 Alternative Contest', by far the best contest of the national independent music. This victory will allow the band's participation in the November 2010 edition of M.E.I. at Faenza .On July 24 the Christine tread the 'Psycho stage' in the prestigious contest 'Italy Wave Love Festival' with a dark and intense performance which arouses great interest among the public and professionals.The band highly motivated, after begins the composition of new songs assembling various ideas collected in the meanwhile, consolidating its dark and atmospheric vein. As a starter for the full-length release in the early days of the new year, the band releases the 'Promo 2010 'containing three new songs in the draft version.This promo and a good stage presence are the business card to attend the M.E.I. (Independent Labels Meeting) in Faenza , November 28, supported by the staff of ‘Orquestra music factory’.In February Christine Plays Viola signs an agreement with the german record label AFMUSIC for the release of first full-length called “Innocent Awareness” coming out the next 13th of May in digital release and the 10th of june in the CD release !!.In March 2011 the band and Loreto Valente realize the first music video called “Witch of Silence”.The hope is to involve as many people as possible, to excite ... the dream is a springborad to the public passing through the consensus of 'experts' in the music business!In June 2011 signs an agreement with the german booking agency called "STATIC MAGAZINE GERMANY " to promote the album. The album of the band since its release has considerable success in the dark scene: many are the songs inside the album that are played by djs in their playlist and to some of these songs we can listen in European dark clubs. Furthermore the videoclip “Witch Of Silence” is placed inside the famous compilation “Gothic Visions III” alongside the big musicians in the dark/gothic secene!! In support of the album, the band performs in several concerts, especially in surrounding areas and in the month of November goes on a mini tour that touches Switzerland and Germany with an excellent response from the public and professionals. Back from the tour, the Christines release a new song, “Apocryphal Supremacy” that will be used for the compilation of upcoming release and possibly will be part of a new work. In the meanwhile the album “Innocent Awareness” is considered one of the best productions of the year 2011 in the dark/gothic genre by the polls of year-end in radio, websites and magazines; particularly worthy of note is the quote by one of the gurus of the scene Mick Mercer that insert the album between the top 30 of 2011. With the help of the “Static Magazin Germany” booking, the CPV are confirmed at the prestigious dark festival “Emergency Exit Festival” in Dornbirn, Austria in days 7 and 8 April 2012 also with Rhombus, Lotus Feed, Distorted Pictures, The Last Cry, Pretentious Moi?, Vendemmian!! In june 2012 the band releases a new promo of 4 tracks that it includes the song called “Keep my scorn warm” a great collaboration with the singer Rosetta Garrì from “The Spiritual Bat”. In September CPV goes on a new tour in Germany and France and in December CPV shared the stage with THE CHAMELEONS/VOX, VENDEMMIAN, THE LAST CRY in Frankfurt. In January 2013 CPV is band of the year on Static Magazin Germany and the song Keep my scorn warm is the most song played on the show VIRUS G and is consistently in the top ten of the European alternative chart, reaching the first place in December 2012.The band is currently composing new material for an upcoming album and continues the live activity
