The Powergoats
David Hart founded the band in 1991 with photographer John Major. Originally intended as a Rolling Stones hobby/tribute act for house parties, the band called themselves Out of Our Heads. After three years, Hart and Major were eying the Ottawa club circuit to perhaps follow in the footsteps of band friends The Blushing Brides and The Bleeding Hearts.
In 1994 the lineup was rounded out with 20 year old frontman Jamie Douglas, a frantic showman with a theater background. Calling themselves Torn and Frayed, the band enjoyed a decent two-year run playing clubs, pubs and campuses along the Ottawa-Montreal route (favorite shows include weekend runs in Montreal's Peel Pub and the 1995 Bluesfest Volunteer Appreciation Show at the Penguin Club with Canadian favorite Suzie Vinnick sharing vocals as a surprise guest).
When Jamie left the band in 1995 to pursue other creative ventures, David kept the Rolling Stones theme going stong into the next decade, reforming with Jamie for a brief period in 2001.
In December 2007, Hart intended to retire the band in style with one final show in June; an outdoor private function in Western Quebec. Finding themselves yet again without a singer/frontman, they once again invited back Douglas to front the band for the show. While the show itself never came to fruition, David and Jamie resolved to continue the band with a new energy and a new name; The Powergoats. Performing their own material for the first time, the 'little band that coudn't' have rocked the socks off of all those who've been lucky enough to see real, honest rock n' roll performed with heart and soul.
