Material that was to become their debut release started as a side project by TFP vocalist Jon D. while playing in the Orange County based powerpop group Bare Foot Bride.
Change was released later that year; It was self produced, the sound was moody, electronic, and subdued.
The band's lineup was starting to fill out when, Melissa (Riotgurl), a Miami native and veteran of the SoFla music scene, was added on keyboard.
