“Deep in the woodlands of Eastern Oklahoma, a fire has been smouldering for some time now. The five-piece known as The Dirty Mugs picked up guitars, drums and accordion, and struck the match. “Hardaccordion Wonder Punk” was born, and for the past ten years the boys from the backwoods have been fanning the flames in preparation for this release. So, the sceptic in me wants to simply file this under “folk-punk” and be done with it, but that is doing these guys a bit of an injustice. Sure, the accordion and strummed acoustic six-strings make you think these boys are headed down the path towards Flogging Molly territory, and as a matter of fact the vocals remind me of Kenny from Dropkick Murphys at times. Overall though this has far more of a rootsy feel than your typical folk punk does, and the Mugs manage to create an original sound too – in particular when the guitars introduce a Western twang here and there.
