The Den Scholars were formed in late 2010 by singer-songwriter Brett Jerrett. He brought in some friends to back up his songs, and those friends brought in their friends, who brought in more friends, until the band grew into the inconveniently large collective it is today. After months of writing songs, the Den Scholars made their live debut in March 2011, and have since been regulars on the live music scene in Cape Breton.
