With harmonies that seem to come from one astonishing voice, Sarah and Claire Bowman share a rare, near telepathic musical bond. The Brooklyn based "roller coaster" duo is both sophisticated and imaginative, blending together the preserved vulnerability and abandoned glee of their childhood. The Bowmans deeply move and delight their audience worldwide with uncanny, evocative, and unforgettable performances.

Sweeping across a full range of passions, the cohesive debut album “Far from Home” (Mother West), includes shattering acoustic harmony-rich ballads to heartening rock songs infused with early classical and gospel influences. The duo's sound has been compared to Gillian Welch, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, to name a few, but they are impossible to pigeonhole.
The Bowmans presence on the national scene is ever increasing as they return from their latest European tour, thanks to the success of “Far from Home” and the waves of enthusiastic response from audiences in the U.S. and abroad. The sisters have aggressively toured together around the U.S. almost non-stop for the last three years and are circuiting a pattern around a large part of Europe as well, already arriving with high praise from press and leaving with rave reviews.
The Bowmans have been enthusiastically well received at festivals around the world, including CMJ, NEMO, Midwest Music Summit, Folk in der Walden (NL), Folk ver Volks (NL), the TOSCO Music Party (NC), Club Passim Campfire Festival (Boston), The Vagina Monologues (NYC), three NYC Antifolk Fests, the NY HOWL Festival, and the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion festival (TN). In the past year, they have supported renowed artists including Greg Brown, Nicole Atkins, JayMay, Jeff Lewis, and John Auer of The Posies. They will support folk legend Garnet Rogers this October and head west this January for a five-week residency at Los Angeles' Hotel Café preceding a West Coast tour. Sarah Bowman is also an accomplished cellist and currently performs with the famed cello driven rock trio Rasputina. The Bowmans have performed as the support act with Rasputina on two national tours.
The Bowmans music has been featured on NPR's “All Songs Considered” and many major noncommercial NPR format stations nationwide, including WYEP Pittsburgh, WTMD Baltimore, WAMC Albany, WDVX Knoxville, several Iowa Public Radio stations, and college radio across the US. The Bowmans are also on rotation on French, Belgian, Dutch, Swiss and German radio.
