Bio

The Bonanza Lunchbox is a songwriting concept involving the spontaneous creation of music. The first offering here, It's OK, is an example of such a song. A very lo-fi approach to music production and recording, yes, but also what i think is a refreshingly raw approach to sharing music. The listener experiences the birth of the song. Who is the bonanza lunchbox.. ? It's just me, Mike Kennedy, husband and father, strange American, disgruntled taxpayer, pseudo guitarist, pseudo poet, banging away, enjoying myself writing and recording the little tunes that escape from me. I'm not an especially gifted singer, player or composer, but playing music is a passion of mine so I will continue, probably until I die...i hope i live to be 100

In 1984, fresh out of high school, Mike Kennedy worked as a stocker @ Bestyet grocery store, where hey met a guy named Mark Burnett who showed him 2 bar chords on the guitar (thanks Mark).  Mike then started writing songs and playing in the local band Argyle Tattoo... First gig, Hissom Memorial Center in Sand Springs, OK...  who would have known this would be the most engaged and appreciative audience of his career ?  Later, the band played shows @ the Crystol Pistol, Captains Cabin, 424, Nuevo Wavo, a funky converted wheat silo in Fayetteville, some upstairs club in Norman... and so on.  After Argyle Tattoo ended,  Mike was member to The Rayn, a somewhat successful Tulsa band who for some odd reason, relocated to San Francisco during the grunge/funk era of the late 80s. Needless to say it was tough to find a gig.  Being a good boomerang child, a few years, one giant earthquake, and a thorough butt kicking dose of reality in the big city, Mike moved back home to the Tulsa area.  He is now a fine upstanding member of society, having a regular cubicle job, short hair, docker pants, a mortgage, a wonderful wife and 3 incredibly obedient and well mannered children.  Mike continues to write songs and play music and still occasionally dreams of being a god of rock.
