“York/Harrisburg-based quartet The Black Saxons unleash a brand of charged, punk-infused garage rock on their debut disc, Disaster. Many of the Saxons’ tunes are simple, sex-driven boy-meets-girl/boy vs. girl rants such as “The Skirt,” “Kiss My Lips,” “Eeny Meeny Miney Mo,” “Sex Machine” and “I Want You” The group tosses in a few curve balls such as the dual-speed rockabilly of “Bank Job,” the darker and slower mystique of “Chemical Wedding” and the short and feral “Rock N Roll Is an Animal.” The performances are loose and go-for-broke, as The Black Saxons throw caution to the wind and never take themselves too seriously. Sizemore especially lets it all out, draining every ounce of sass from his system by the end of each song he fronts. Their energy is feverish, and ultimately infectious; The Black Saxons provide plentiful excuses for happy-go-lucky pogo dancing on Disaster, providing a fun, raucous listen. *Edited for length*”
