Bio

Tempting Zen: Was formed in 2004, when Joellen Cabot and Doug Sable-Wilmarth, reconnected after many years of losing touch. After writing many songs, via long distance, Joellen moved back to Colorado and through Doug, met Chris George and Kelly Watson, to form what turned out to be the "beginning" of Tempting Zen. However, something or someone was missing...and that someone turned out to be Stephan Hoff, who joined the band in 2006, and brought with him the Pop/R&B writing style. When the band merged their already hard edged tunes with Stephan Pop/R&B style, they created for themselves a unique musical style that they've coined as "New Retro".

About

The Members (In alphebetical Order)

Joellen Cabot:  Lead Vocals and Some Guitar:  Joellen has been singing since she can remember, and her first venture as a professional singer came when she met Doug, back in...well, a long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away).  Through the years she has developed a unique vocal style which has been influenced by many vocalist, including those from the 1940s Big Band era, to Motown, to Rock.  Joellen is thankful to have had the opportunity to play in many bands, with many talented musicians, across the country, and feels her musical journey has helped her to find a soulfulness, she may not have otherwise had.  Joellen, also has a band (more of a duet), with Stephan Hoff, which is sort of an off-shoot of Tempting Zen, called The M.A.W.B.R.S.  Beyond music, her interests lie in politics, history, self-education, fitness, movies (especially the old black and whites), a good glass of wine, and of course, fashion (shoes and handbags may be a bit of an obsession).

Chris George:  Drums, Percussion and Backing Vocals:  Chris has been playing drums since the age of four and started his drum training at the age of eight.  As an accomplished drummer and percussionist, he has been in an array of bands and musical productions including The Trooper Drum and Bugle Corp.  He and Doug have played in numerous bands together and are still going strong with their cover band "God's Day Off".  Chris also teaches drums to a few select students, and his musical tastes and influences encompass a wide spectrum of styles. Chris is a power-house whose inventive chops create the backbone for Tempting Zen.  Chris also has classical/operatic influences as his sister Angela is an accomplished Opera singer!  Outside of his music, his interests lie in politics, the finer things in life (some of which we won't mention), collecting unique drum kits, movies and is most certainly, the comedian of the group, and thankfully, just a bit metrosexual.

Stephan Hoff:  Keyboards, and Backing Vocals:  Stephan has had an interesting musical career, as he began as a drummer and grew into a singer and keyboardist.  After highschool, he joined the Army and became the Musical Director for the 82nd Airborne Division All American Chorus, which performed for some big names, such as the Jerry Lewis Telethon,  Bob Hope and President Ronald and Nancy Reagan at the Kennedy Center Honors, and others.  After the Army he went to the Music Business Institute in Atlanta, and later recorded his first album in Nashville, where he learned much about recording and producing.  His noteable musical style and heartfelt singing voice is a crucial part of Tempting Zen's sound.  His musical influences are also wide and varied, and he enjoys keeping his finger on the pulse of the music industry.  Stephan is from a musical family, noteably, his mother and one of his sisters were accomplished classical vocalists.  His interests outside of music are politics, extreme water and snow sports, mixed marial arts, food and wine, body building and spending time with his daughter.

Doug  Sable:  Guitars:
Doug has been playing guitar...well, since the guitar was invented.  No, but seriously, he began playing guitar at a young age, developed an affinity for the instrument and grew into a guitar virtuoso, and a much sought after guitar teacher.  Doug has a keen ability to think "outside of the box" and is able to invent unique guitar riffs that many of the "Zen" songs are created from.  Doug has played in numerous bands, been involved in many musical projects and is a well respected guitar player.  In fact, being from a well known political family in the area he grew up, the path laid out for him was much different than the one he chose.  But lucky for us, he stayed the course and now lends his unique genius and superior ability to Tempting Zen.  Outside of music, Doug's interests are hiking and climbing fourteeners, fitness, holistic health, strange movies and photography.  Oh, he comes up with some interesting culinary recipes as well.

Kelly Watson:  Bass and Backing Vocals:  Kelly, is the youngest member of Tempting Zen, but that doesn't make him any less noteable!  Kelly has a cool funk/rock/retro style that seamlessly glues the band together and keeps the band's backbone solid.  He has been in many bands and continues to perform not only in Tempting Zen but other noteable acts, as well.  Kelly also helps to form the harmony vocal sound of Tempting Zen as he carries the high notes (that's gotta hurt).  Kelly and his family are involved in the merchandising facet of the band as well, he and his wife Dani and two sons, Dakota, and Cory, keep busy by silk screening Zen's tee-shirts, banners and such, to sell at the shows.  Outside of music, Kelly spends much time with his family and family events.

There are, also, other individuals who are key members of the band, who do not play an instrument, but help us in so many ways, of course, our families and friends are our greatest support system, but special mention needs to be made to Jacki Burris, whom, without, we would have gone many a rehearsal night hungry, and many a gig, without photos and public relations, not to mention her thoughtfulness in remembering birthdays and special events.  Thanks much Jack!  We love ya!
